A HEALTHIER FUTURE In remote areas like those where Maasai communities live, access to healthcare is a constant struggle. Limited clinics and a shortage of qualified professionals leave these communities vulnerable, jeopardizing their health and well-being. Big Life's Community Health Program is working to dismantle barriers to healthcare. In partnering with CHASE Africa and the Kajiado South Department of Health, we are able to bring vital services directly to remote communities through outreach clinics and backpack nurses. Both offer a range of services, including consultations with clinical officers and nurses, HIV testing and counseling, nutritional assessments and supplementation, immunizations, basic pharmacy access, and family planning options. Beyond these clinics, we also manage a dedicated team of Community Health Workers (CHWs). These trusted neighbors, who share the cultural background of the communities they serve, provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights education. Imagine having a familiar face, someone you know and trust, to guide you through complex decisions about your family's health. This is the invaluable role our CHWs fulfill. In 2022, over 108,000 people were reached with family planning information. In 2023, we reached over 140,000 people, increasing our reach by 30%. We believe that conservation thrives when communities thrive. We advocate for a world where healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Together, we can build a healthier future for all. 📸: Nikki Best #worldhealthday #communityhealth #healthcareaccess #healthadvocacy #kenya #amboseli

Thank you to the amazing survivor leader Kristin Vaughn for inviting me to the Health and Human Trafficking Training by Dr. Laura Lederer. 🫶🏽👏🏽🙏🏽💐 Learning with health providers the barriers, best practices, and protocol approaches for identifying human trafficking victims in healthcare environments has broaden my horizons. In the state of VA, it is becoming a law for all health care professionals to take human trafficking trainings. This training ran by Dr. Laura Lederer is the only healthcare human trafficking training currently in VA that includes a survivor leader apart of the training. Kristin shared great discussion points with the class regarding victims and traffickers’ perspectives for interacting with health providers. Listening closely to what was not presented on the slides there were a few take aways: Pregnancies In Trafficking: 💠 There are a high number of forced abortions and survivors no longer can have children. Both issues are causing long term affects for survivors. 💠1,000's of children are born and raised in human trafficking lives causing intergenerational issues. 💠There are specifics health clinics and Plan Parenthoods traffickers take victims to because no questions are asked. 💠Asking questions, not just checking off the boxes, will help look further on what is really being presented to the healthcare professional. Victims Contact with Healthcare Providers: 💠Look for the root cause. Healthcare providers have an opportunity to affect trafficking with Interact and repour. 💠Training in health care facilities in identifying victims and survivors to know the indicators. 💠Identify a person at risk and know how to respond appropriately. Best Practices: 💠Victim Center Approach. 💠Trauma Informed Training. 💠4R’s of trauma inform approached. 💠How to check judgements of patients and ask more questions. 💠Overcome biases and consciously thinking about patient to identify victims. 💠 Set up protocol in health care facility for identification for victims or disclosures. Warm Hand Off to Community Organizations: 💠Seek the next steps after victims leave health facility. 💠In community providers can warmly hand off survivors to other resources regarding their rehabilitation needs. 💠Partner with groups who can assist with food, clothing, shelter, and hot lines to connect victim. Mandatory Reporting: 💠Minors in commercial sex exploitation its required to be reported. 💠If a minor says not to report what do providers do? 🔆Give several options on how follow the mandatory reporting policy. This training has opened my eyes to see how health care providers are apart of the front lines for victims as being apart of their way out of the life. As we come together, learn, and practice how to develop eyes to identify and respond accordingly with victims of human trafficking will create a greater impact for solutions. #HumanTraffickingTraining #HealthandHumanTrafficking

Global Youth Ambassador at Theirworld || Public Health Officer at RHHF~Implementing Health Behavioral Interventions~Empowering Communities || Teens Education ~ Empowerment || Founder of Teenspire Initiative by Adéfia 🍁
I expected these results! So some weeks ago, I created a poll This is the question: What current public health issues are you specialized in and why? (1) Sexual and Reproductive Health (2) Gender Based Violence (3) HIV and Tuberculosis (4) Malaria Gender Based Violence recorded the highest percentage…… It’s no more news that this is prevalent in our communities . . . . . What we can do… 📍For every project implementation in this category, incorporate sensitization to women and girls against GBV 📍 Incorporate empowerment for women and girls such as skill acquisition, digital training and so on 📍Advocate for the female gender against GBV to community leaders…. 📍 Organize trainings or sensitizations for women and girls in your community on how to speak up when they experience GBV… No matter how little, be a voice as a public health worker in your community. PS: Its Saturday, how is your weekend going😊 #gbv #violence #industrytrends #120daylinkedinspree

Nondiscrimination counsel to hospitals and health systems 🩺 Compliance, Investigations, and Litigation
DOJ and HHS OCR have announced the resolution of an investigation into allegations that a home healthcare provider discriminated against a person with HIV in violation of the ADA, Section 504, and Section 1557 of the ACA. Among other things, the provider must implement a policy to ensure equal access to individuals with disabilities, including those with or perceived to have HIV, provide mandatory training to its staff, and pay a monetary damages amount to the individual claimant. According to OCR Director Melanie Fontes Rainer: “Today’s important settlement tangibly contributes to our efforts to ensure nondiscrimination in HHS-funded services. It also advances our newly reinvigorated Olmstead Initiative by removing discriminatory barriers to ensure individuals with disabilities can be served in their own homes and communities.” A link to the Voluntary Resolution Agreement is in the comments below. #healthlaw #healthequity #healthjustice #equalaccess
