In the news 📢 'Dallas Wants To Cut Unsheltered Homelessness in Half by 2026. Reducing homelessness take a lot of money, but maybe not as much time as you might think.' The Dallas Observer covered the City of Dallas' 2024–25 proposed budget and the goal to reduce unsheltered homelessness in the city. Jacob Vaughn wrote, "The proposed budget calls for an investment of $1.4 million in street outreach workers partnered with Housing Forward to help cut unsheltered homelessness in half by 2026. These workers are meant to connect homeless individuals with the programs and services they need, like the R.E.A.L. Time Rehousing program. Street to Home is a new initiative that’s part of the rehousing program, which makes long-term housing a priority for chronically unsheltered homeless people." Register free and find out more about this topic, speakers and conversation at https://lnkd.in/grvKKuSY About this conversation: With the ever escalating housing crisis, a growing number of people are confronting the harsh realities of homelessness on a daily basis. Despite concerted efforts, community services and shelter spaces are struggling to keep pace with the surging demand, leaving many without access to even these temporary solutions due to their limited capacity. Faced with this stark reality, individuals are compelled to forge their own paths to survival, resulting in an increasing presence of makeshift shelters and tents, as residents seek safety and refuge from the often unforgiving elements. As we grapple with the pressing need for both short-term and long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness, the current plight of those living outdoors remains in a state of uncertainty. What do we know about the complexities concerning the root causes and approaches to homelessness and encampments? What responses and measures can we enact to deal with the basic needs, care, and well-being of these people? What other approaches to this issue, and what steps are other municipalities taking to assist those dealing with homelessness and living in encampments? Join our community discussion to learn more about the approaches, to have your questions considered, and to share your thoughts about making our community a safer and better place for those living with “no fixed address”. #Unsheltered #WRTownHalls #homelessness #NoFixedAddress #waterlooregion #londonontario #niagarafalls #sarnialambton #ottawa #vancouver #community #affordablehousing #Encampments #humanrights

In Charlotte, we're witnessing a critical challenge that touches the heart of our community — the rising tide of homelessness. This year, we're turning our focus toward understanding and addressing the complexities of housing instability in our city. Insights from the 2023 State of Housing Instability & Homelessness report by Mecklenburg County Community Support Services have been eye-opening: ⬆️ The count of individuals facing homelessness in our community is on the rise. ⬆️ An increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness without shelter. ⬆️ People are spending more time in emergency shelters than before. The availability of affordable rental options is dwindling. ⬆️ An increasing number of low- and moderate-income families are finding it hard to secure and maintain housing. ⬆️ The rate of evictions is climbing. Charlotte, we're curious to hear your thoughts. Were you aware of these issues? Do these findings surprise you? More importantly, how can we come together as a community to support those in need and find sustainable solutions to these challenges? Let's start the conversation and more importantly, let's start taking action. If you're ready to make a difference or want to learn more about our involvement and what you can do, let's talk. Together, we can make a change. #charlottecommunity #housinginstability #homelessnessawareness #takeaction #strataimpact

Did you know that cities nationwide engage in a homeless count every year? I recently joined the City of Los Angeles's annual count, scanning our community with volunteers to identify individuals experiencing homelessness. It was a late-night endeavor, counting tents, RVs, and people living in cars. Our experience shed light on the importance of these counts. Beyond providing housing, we aim to be part of the solution. In 2023, the count in LA reached 40,000, highlighting a growing issue. Accurate counts are crucial to addressing homelessness and finding practical solutions for our neighbors in need. Together, let's make a difference. #LACommunity #VolunteerLA #HomelessnessCountLA

Homelessness and housing is complicated. We know that. As someone who has been deeply engaged in thinking about solutions to homelessness since founding Hollywood Arts in 2005 - a school focused on preventing young adults from falling into chronic homelessness - I thought I had a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand. However, recently, as a result of working on behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with the incredible Brittney Weissman, Kerry Morrison, Aaron Taxy and the dynamic team at Hollywood 4WRD, I've learned even more. Over the past few months, our team has engaged in candid conversations with various stakeholders, delving into areas often overlooked in mainstream discussions about housing and homelessness. The insights we've uncovered have challenged my preconceptions and expanded my perspective, despite my years of experience in this field. What we've discovered through this process is truly remarkable. The depth of research, the diversity of voices we've included, and the innovative approaches we've explored have shed new light on longstanding issues. I believe you'll find these revelations as compelling and thought-provoking as I have. I strongly recommend making time to attend this event. https://bit.ly/3TsOheN Join me in learning about and reimagining solutions to one of our city's most pressing challenges. #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessPrevention #CommunityDevelopment #SocialImpact #InnovativeSolutions

Gaining deeper understanding about community perceptions on homelessness is the focus of a Selkirk Innovates online survey that is now open to the public. Selkirk College is inviting community members in Trail, Castlegar and Nelson to share their views on current conditions, services that support the unhoused, the well-being of the unhoused population, sources of information about the issue, and overall community engagement. The survey is part of Selkirk Innovates’ three-year applied research project, "Bridging Rural Homelessness and Well-being: A Sustainable and Collaborative Regional Response," aimed at improving the well-being of those experiencing homelessness in the West Kootenay.
