KNOW BEFORE BLIND OR KNOW AFTER BLIND In 2016, while on a community Eyecare outreach to Ika LGA (AKS) I was having a conversation with a Glaucoma patient... He was returned from Lagos because his eyes had gone to the point where a field of green grasses appeared like a plain green surface like a wall painted green. He told me how he was first diagnosed in 2008, then.... He was given the right drugs but was not told that he was to continue it. Well, that one pained me but it was not as painfully as the next thing that he told me... When he was returned from Lagos, he met another eye Care person who diagnosed him correctly again, prescribed the right drugs and for the first time, this man was told the name of the condition: Glaucoma. That was when it happened... He said he asked the Eye Care person "so what is Glaucoma?" The reply broke my heart 💔 He replied " ah! Everybody knows Glaucoma na. Just ask people". 🙆🏽♂️ Ask what?!! Who else is suppose to be the best to answer if not you the eye Care provider? 💔... In my over 10 years in Eye Care I have come to know that there are only two things people generally know about Glaucoma. 1. It has no cure 2. It causes blindness And these information are not enough to save a blinding eye. So this Friday 15TH March 2024.
