💔 Just before Christmas last year I had a miscarriage. Today the Department of Health and Social Care has shared the news that those who experience baby loss before 24 weeks can now apply for an official baby loss certificate. ⚪ I know this is going to help so many! Often, if you experience loss before 24 weeks you're made to feel 'lucky' because it was early. There is no record, just a sad bond you hold with your partner over the traumatic experience you have shared. It's absolute utter bullshit. There was still a positive pregnancy test, symptoms, scans, let alone the physical aspect of the loss itself. 💌 This certificate for me will be the final part of healing. I can officially acknowledge my loss. Although I have lots to say on miscarriage and why it's important to talk about it on a platform like this, today, I just want to share this monumental piece of news in case it can help someone else. 💝 #awareness #babyloss

This is unacceptable and should be considered unethical. Perhaps this factor contributes to perpetuating the cycle of the Black Maternal Health Crisis. Sadly, it exemplifies what I have often observed in the medical system. Women should never be judged by the color of their skin when seeking medical attention. They should not automatically be treated as if they didn’t want their baby or pregnancy due to a lack of prenatal care and insurance coverage. Certainly, black women should not be dismissed when trying to get help in a time of need. Pregnancy can be a very stressful time, and sometimes women are battling with mental health and cultural challenges. This disheartening scenario underscores the need for change. This is disheartening because here we have a woman who, I believe, put forth immense effort to take that step to get help, only to be met with rejection and objection, which is absolutely preposterous. All black women deserve the right to equal and equitable access to medical care. This is why there is a pressing need for more education, advocacy, and implicit bias & cultural sensitivity training. I’m not going to stand by and keep silent while my community is suffering. It may not make sense, but this is what I’m going to keep fighting for. Let’s continue to break the silence and continue to fight for our communities until the Black Maternal Health Crisis is eliminated in the United States. #BlackMaternalHealth #Advocacy #EqualityForAll #repost
I am a nurse builder with an entrepreneurial spirit dedicated to nurse innovation and research to improve Black Maternal Health outcomes
Where are my OB physician friends? Please help me understand the rationale of not accepting clients once they are “too far along” in their pregnancy. Is it a legal issue? Make it make sense cause I am struggling! Currently helping someone 35 weeks navigate a very broken system and due to no fault of her own can’t find a provider to help her. Waiting until delivery can’t be the only option, especially not when you are birthing while Black.
