Today is my 25 year anniversary with AMN Healthcare! My career is as old as a college graduate. 😊 I have been reflecting on a long tenure and thinking back on so many lessons learned. Although it’s 25 years with one company, it’s really like 6 jobs with 4 different companies and a dozen different market environments. Starting in locum tenens when both Staff Care and physician staffing were young, going from private to public with the AMN acquisition, joining the Nurse Staffing organization and integrating our sales services. Navigating growth markets and skinny markets, including global recessions and pandemics. Starting at a sales desk making 100 cold calls a day out of a phone book, to leading a robust sales organization for one of the largest workforce solutions organizations in the industry. Through it all, here are some things I’ve learned: - People are everything. I love my relationships with my leaders and team members, my peers and colleagues, my valued clients and partners. When I make hiring decisions, I think “is this someone I would enjoy visiting with over dinner, that I would want to spend time with.” And “don’t hire jerks.” - Culture is key. I’ve had many different leaders and executives over the last 25 years.  Trust, respect, communication, human decency, and manners all matter. When people believe in the culture, they are 1000% in. - Be true to yourself. My biggest misses personally and professionally were when I felt pressured to act in a way misaligned to my truth. Going along with someone else's opinion when I saw things differently, or hesitating because I questioned myself. I’ve gotten better at living my best work life through my daily example and making more time for purposeful intent. - Work isn’t everything. I still am very driven professionally, but I’ve worked hard to expand my value beyond the definition of my job. It took me a long time to do that. Rather than fit myself into a square box just to get that next promotion, I can lead forward in other ways – like my new Board Chair with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I’m thankful for all the experiences, the good ones and the hard ones, that taught me valuable life lessons and helped me be the person and leader I am today. Who knows what the next 25 years will bring? I’m all in.

Thanks Cybill Getgood, CHRP, IMA! It was a pleasure to talk shop w/you & Jamie Getgood - I appreciate executives that not only understand the market today, but where it will be tomorrow. With that, for any of my fellow leaders within the staffing, search or grander HC technology labor market looking for that 'magic bullet' to differentiate your firm from the increasingly commoditized competitive masses...you're looking at them. Finding marketing/solution suite communication partners got increasingly harder for me over the years because they all began to sound the same...the same stock photos for the marketing brochure or convention booth, the same generic business rhetoric for service or attribute descriptions, the same repetitive social media outreach void of specific client application that engages, etc... They weren't bad companies, they just didn't have the 'advantage' of 'working the life' or experiencing this insane COVID-induced labor market from the front lines like recruiters servicing & evolving with their HC clients in realtime. To stand out in staffing today is to apply your message SPECIFICALLY to a delivery system, an executive or other role/title, providers of ALL types, not just who you're comfortable selling or recruiting to because you want to be a partner with the entire clinical enterprise team, not just an interchangeable vendor to a silo of it. You want to make them think "finally, someone actually understands what I'm facing internally & how we got here versus just throwing vacancy statistics at me." I believe that is what Cybill & SVC Marketing Team do better than 'traditional' marketing/PR partners because they've recruited it getting those bruises along with the rest of us. The horizon looks calmer, but that's when the next storm can sneak up on you, let SVC be the next marketing firm to navigate you thru these post-COVID waters.

🌟 Reflecting on a transformative weekend at the MPI Tennessee Chapter Mid-Year Board Retreat Placemakr 🌟 Stepping into each board meeting or retreat always brings a mix of excitement and nerves. As someone deeply passionate about MPI, I thrive in these spaces as an idea person. Yet, the shadow of past insecurities sometimes looms large, whispering doubts about my adequacy in fulfilling my role. But amidst the anxiety, I remind myself: I am a volunteer, giving my best. This time was different. As VP of Finance in a pivotal transition year for MPI, including a fiscal year extension and a new prospectus, I found myself at the center stage. I poured my heart into crafting a revamped prospectus, tirelessly seeking ways to better serve our sponsors. Presenting it was nerve-wracking; every question felt like a challenge to defend my hard work. However, amidst the scrutiny, a beautiful realization dawned upon me. Each question, each input, was a testament to the community's care and commitment. We weren't just making decisions; we were engaging in a collective effort to elevate MPI. The aftermath of the presentation held the most precious moment. A call from someone I've clashed with, expressing genuine appreciation for my work, reminded me of the power of connection and understanding. Leadership isn't just about delivering flawless presentations; it's about fostering a community where everyone feels seen and valued. This weekend reaffirmed the essence of MPI: leadership, community, inspiration, networking, and above all, lifting each other up.
