Zaha Hadid Architects to Transform Historic Industrial Paper Mill into a Cultural Center in Belgrade, Serbia Following an international design competition, the winning proposal for the new Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, Serbia, was announced. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) in collaboration with Serbia's Bureau Cube Partners, the project seeks to transform the historic Milan Vapa Paper Mill into a contemporary cultural center that celebrates Nikola Tesla's scientific achievements while preserving the site's architectural heritage. Nikola Tesla, a renowned inventor and engineer, made significant contributions to modern technology. Known for developing alternating current (AC) electricity, Tesla also pioneered the Tesla coil, wireless communication technologies, and concepts that influenced the development of radio and radar. His work, spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries, continues to shape advancements in energy, communications, and technology today.

Abstract: The Readymade Body and the Architectural Machine The concept of the *readymade*, pioneered by Marcel Duchamp, suggests that objects, devoid of inherent artistic intent, become art through context and designation. Extending this idea, the human body itself can be viewed as a readymade—an entity pre-existing within cultural, social, and historical constructs, yet transformed through acts of perception and intervention. The body, much like Duchamp’s *Fountain*, is presented, manipulated, and placed within a space where it becomes subject to endless re-contextualization. This interplay of body and space finds its most compelling expression in the architectural machine, where human actions within the structure mirror the acts of its own construction. In the image provided, the intertwined bodies evoke a mechanical system, where limbs, torsos, and actions penetrate and connect as if reenacting the process of assembling a machine. In this context, the body is more than a biological form—it becomes a mechanistic part of the architectural apparatus, subject to processes of filling, penetrating, and bonding. Each figure represents not only a participant in the erotic act but also a participant in the continuous act of building, reshaping, and inhabiting the architectural space. Just as in architecture, where the craft of making repairs the "sin" of its making, these bodies engage in a ritual that restores and reaffirms their connection to the space they inhabit, suggesting an endless loop of creation and recreation. The sexual energy present in this paradigm is potent, a force driving the perpetual reassembly of space, matter, and meaning. The body, by engaging in acts that echo the building process, becomes a vessel for restoring the structural sins of architecture itself. However, when we imagine the reverse—the deconstruction of space—an unsettling reality emerges. If the structure holds memory, and this memory is reversed, then the inhabitants are no longer engaging in constructive acts but in undoing their very existence within the architectural narrative. This reverse logic mirrors the dismantling of the body’s functional and symbolic roles, challenging the inherent stability of both the physical structure and the bodies that dwell within. Duchamp’s *readymade* philosophy, when applied to architecture, reveals a deeper critique of both space and the body. Architecture, like the body, is made ready for occupation, redefined through human activity. But in the collapse of both sexual and structural systems, we confront the fragility of these readymades. The relentless reinterpretation, deconstruction, and rebuilding expose the impossibility of permanent meaning or control, as both the body and architecture are continuously subjected to the inevitable entropy of time, memory, and desire.
