How Women Lead’s Post

There is significant evidence that black women are extraordinary leaders and return top results in every industry where we see their leadership. We all lose when black women’s leadership is held back. Our blindspots and bias are costing us! In politics, just look at what Aimee Allison and She the People are doing. It is incredible and oh so needed right now. In entrepreneurship, look at Julie Gordon White💃🏽. She is building and developing solutions to real problems women face. Kamala Harris is out there on the campaign trail fighting for us. These are women making a difference for us.  We need more women like them, especially when this last year has seen our reproductive rights taken away. We need leaders who can step in and right this wrong. AND those leaders can be us. I've seen the amazing power of the women in our reproductive justice cohort for Women Leaders for the World. We are so committed to supporting black women leaders that we have a whole cohort for Women Leaders for the World specifically for black women. And yet it isn't enough. Just look at the planning going into project 2025. Seriously, over 900 pages. Couple that with recent legal attacks on grant making organizations who focus on black women and a bleak picture is painted. One where the most qualified women to lead us are pushed down. Let's look ahead to the next 5 to 10 years at the closing discussion of the Fundamental Rights Forum with Juan Fernando López Aguliar, Dmytro Lubinets, Nikolaus Marschik and Márta Pardavi. The #RightsForum24 of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights is a unique space for dialogue and a place to explore the pressing human rights challenges that we face in Europe today. On the 12th of March in this panel leading thinkers and doers will discuss the shifts in methodology and agenda to address the changing nature of challenges to humanity. Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent by Isabel Wilkerson critically examines the system of caste in hopes of finding answers to our American dilemma; racism. As educators, how can the book Caste and the film Origins by Director Ava DuVernay be used within the classroom to support our students inquiry and participatory based learning surrounding issues such as environmental justice, raced based health disparities, the history of voting and the challenges our democracy faces today? How can we take a deeper dive into contemporary content that challenges our world and personal views so we may better understand the origins of our racialized discontent as a Nation? Critical thinking + civic engagement = positive impact for tomorrows future. The Reconstruction continues.

Do we love our children? Sounds simple enough, but our actions speak louder than our words. Scott Galloway's latest TED talk is a brutal wake-up call that we've been stripping away prosperity from younger generations to enrich the wealthy elderly. He lays out the damning facts - wage stagnation, soaring education/housing costs, gutted social services for youth while massively subsidizing the rich retirees. This "great intergenerational theft" isn't accidental - it's an intentional transfer of wealth from labor to capital owners, from the young to the aging aristocracy. Our representatives serve their wealthy elderly donors, not the struggling youth. Galloway pulls no punches indicting our unbridled greed and disregard for future generations' well-being. His rallying cry: "Do we love our children?" The solutions are there, but do we have the political will to prioritize youth over short-term enrichment of the elite? This talk is a sobering dose of reality about how we're selling out our future. Galloway issues a wake-up call to take back what's been taken from younger generations - before it's too late. I'll leave you with his rallying cry: "We can do all of this. The question is, do we have the will?" Do we finally start putting younger generations first as any decent society should? The choice is ours.
