🚀 NEWS NEWS NEWS 🚀 HPS secures a New Million-Euro Project: Advancing Innovation & Progress in the European Space Sector We are pleased to announce that HPS has achieved another significant milestone. On August 7, 2024, HPS signed a contract worth 1 million euros under the European Space Agency - ESA's new GSTP sub-program "Product Initiative." 🤝 This groundbreaking project, to be realized in collaboration with our esteemed partners Aerospace & Advanced Composites GmbH and the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. 📅 Next Steps: Over the next 24 months, HPS will be developing highly innovative films, provisionally named "ProFilm," which will be both ATOX-resistant and capable of being non-reflective or invisible. These advanced materials will open up new possibilities for applications such as thermal insulation for satellites and invisible drag sails, which represent an evolution of our #ADEO product line for the controlled deorbiting of decommissioned satellites. Strategic Goals Supported by this Project: 🚀 Achieving technological independence 💼 Enhancing the competitiveness of European spacecraft manufacturers 🌌 Mitigating light pollution in astronomy through non-reflective surfaces 🛰️ Paving the way towards making entire satellites invisible Ernst K. Pfeiffer, CEO of HPS, emphasized: "The innovation processes now underway will lead to highly exciting products. Our collaboration with partners, from DLR in the north to AAC GmbH in the south, is a strong foundation for success. Most importantly, this project demonstrates how quickly and effectively the European Space Agency can identify, embrace, and overcome technical challenges. This is precisely what European space exploration needs, and it is exactly what innovation leaders, particularly from SMEs, require to thrive." #Innovation #SpaceTechnology #HPS #ESA #EuropeanSpaceAgency

Pleased to see the results of the Novaspace (Merger of Euroconsult & SpaceTec Partners) report we contributed to regarding High-Aspect Ratio (HAR) satellites for the European Space Agency - ESA, alongside Initium Space. So, what are they and why should you care? HAR satellites feature a design where the length exceeds the thickness by four times or more, minimizing mass and volume to maximize the amount of satellites per launch. HAR satellites' stackability reduces costs and speeds constellation deployment for quicker operator revenues. They simplify assembly to scale networks quickly and meet demand while their high surface-to-volume ratio supports efficient power and communication with additional arrays and antennas. Low and adjustable drag allows HAR satellites greater efficiency; increased lifespan; eases decommissioning; and aligns with sustainability goals. For this project, we conceived a SAR satellite concept using deployable antennas and COTS parts for cost-effectiveness addressing the need for rapid revisit times in Earth Observation (EO) applications. Read about the results of the study at the link, including the potential and challenges of the HAR concept on future constellations.

Bellatrix Aerospace, a #spacestartup located in Bengaluru, has scheduled the launch of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C55 on Saturday. The vehicle is carrying an experimental payload called the Hall-effect thruster (HET). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will use the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM), where the rocket's last stage serves as an #orbitalplatform for orbital experiments, to house the ARKA-series HET, which will demonstrate the #solarelectric propulsion engine for small satellites. According to Bellatrix Aerospace co-founder Yashas Karanam, "it is something like taking this #evrevolution to space, but actually, the technology is much more complex and very different from how we operate here," PTI was told. According to him, Bellatrix's HET #technology offers a significantly higher specific impulse or mileage in comparison to classic rockets, hence decreasing reliance on #harmful and carcinogenic traditional fuels like hydrazine. According to Karanam, Bellatrix has prioritised maximum #indigenization of sub-systems over reliance on outside vendors. "With this particular launch, we would be in a position to validate and reassure ourselves of our indigenisation capabilities across the spectrum for all the subsystems that have gone into it," according to him. Solar panels positioned around the PS4 tank and a Li-Ion battery provide electricity to the POEM component of a #PSLV. With the help of a helium gas storage, it carries specialised control thrusters and navigates using four #sunsensors, a magnetometer, gyros, and NavIC. Telecommand functionality is enabled, according to the #isro. The Singaporean earth observation satellite TeLEOS-2 will be the primary payload of the PSLV C55 mission. Additionally, it will launch Lumilite-4, a satellite that was jointly created by the National University of Singapore's #satellitetechnology and Research Centre (STAR) and A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) into orbit. The POEM component will also carry payloads from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, DhruvaSpace, and the ISRO in addition to the ARKA-series HET. https://lnkd.in/fzpnPPW #spacequalification #propulsionsystems #spacestartup #PolarSatellite #solarelectric #satellites #IndianSpace #satellitetechnology #commercialspace #spaceexploration Bellatrix Aerospace Saurabh Nerkar
