I enjoyed listening to this conversation, in part because it discusses an approach I'm trying to get more creatives into. That is: it is fine to have things in your drafts/prototypes that aren't working yet. Specifically, the urge to try and make everything smooth often means you avoid playing with unique ideas. Smoothness is quickly gained through the familiar. But if you allow yourself to play with the unworking stuff bit-by-bit, they can contribute to your work becoming great in a unique way. So many creatives and audiences and players have been taught to associate difficulty and incompleteness as a sign of an amateur. But I've found, when it is intentional, when it is part of reaching for something new, then it's the sign that something pretty wonderful is possible. And also, if we want more innovative projects, we need more amateurs exploring their creativity anyway. So, the rule is: welcome gnomes when you see them, don't say they shouldn't exist.

I met with Chris Best from Substack recently, who pointed out to me that Substack has a branded company podcast. --- The Active Voice --- That shouldn’t come as a surprise, and has a wider message about matching the media your company uses to communicate, with the media of your product and your customers. You probably know Substack as a platform for writers. So of course, Substack has an active company blog often written by the marketing team generally, and with co-founders Chris, Hamish McKenzie, and Jairaj Sethi on the byline sharing in-depth perspectives on the company values and aspirations for writers and readers on the internet. Substack also is increasingly a solution for podcasters, especially writers who are integrating audio storytelling. And so, fittingly, Hamish started The Active Voice a year ago and features interviews with Substack writers, talking about their writing process. That’s great product + customer medium + marketing channel alignment!

"Aspiring screenwriters and dialogue writers, do witness this podcast! 📝🎬 Here are some key takeaways from PT prime podcast discussing the writer-director relationship in the Tamil cinema industry: 1. 🌟 Opportunities are wide open for writers in Tamil cinema, and sometimes even a well-researched paper can land you a job with a director. 2. 🤝 A strong rapport between the writer and director is essential. Without it, the picture may suffer. Ensure your creative thought process aligns with the director. 3. 🎥 Watch at least one movie daily. Reading is essential, but cinema is a visual medium. So, immerse yourself in films to grasp the rhythms and nuances for your writing. #TamilCinema #Screenwriting #FilmIndustry" Podcast Link 🖇️- https://lnkd.in/gnNSS8mb

FIRST MILLION DOLLAR SCRIPT 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gPJsTTXp 🗣 Charley and Vlas Parlapanides are A-list screenwriters that have become synonymous with blockbuster hits and groundbreaking television series, including Immortals and the Netflix Hit Series, Blood of Zeus. @InvigorateYourBusiness Podcast. 📣 So we're going to talk a bit business podcast. We're going to talk a bit about the business. We're going to get into Blood of Zeus. But you were paid to public so I feel like I can share. But a million dollars for that script, yeah, but to get it made, you guys actually gave back 20% of that to come in within budgets to see it come to fruition, yeah, if you didn't do that, would you still have gotten your million dollars? It's great, just in terms of the vernacular and the terms of art for our business. So when you say 250 against a million, you get 250,000 now and then if it gets produced, you get a million, with the caveat that if you get sole credit, sole writing credit, you get a million. If you get shared writing credit, then you get half of that bonus and then if you get no writing credit and just a story, you just stay at the 250. But that story what was kind of crazy is that obviously the guys that produced 300 were our producers on that project and Mary Parent, who had bought our first script while she was at Universal, had gone to MGM and she read the script, she loved it and she wanted to buy it. We had to give back 200 grand to come it, to see it to fruition to have a game amazing. I remember seeing it at the time too, like that was just such a cool thank you. #invigorateyourbusiness #podcast #parlapanides #screenwriter #hollywood #netflix #bloodofzeus #interview #writers #producers #directors #script
