For clinicians and advocates, perhaps the biggest challenge of HPV cancer prevention work is navigating the fact that the route of transmission is sexual. Do we talk about that? Do we underplay the HPV connection and focus on cancer prevention? That's been the playbook and HPV vaccination rates have declined. In her new book, "Sexualizing Cancer, HPV and the Politics of Cancer Prevention, San Francisco State University Professor Laura Mamo examines the sexualization of cancer since HPV vaccines became available. Her research reveals how the phenomenon has shaped vaccine guidelines, clinical trial funding, research practices, clinical programs—and public perception. Her work informs today's scientists, clinicians, and educators. I am grateful that Mamo included the work of HPVANDME, building awareness about #HPV #throatcancer #HPVvaccine #headandneckcancer #cervicalcancer #analcancer #cancerprevention #cancersurvivor #endcancer #publichealth Watch interview on the HPVANDME YouTube Channel (below). Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 2025 (January 20th-26th) serves as a reminder to prioritize cervical health. Cervical cancer primarily affects the lower part of the uterus. The HPV vaccine offers robust protection against human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer. Regular screenings, such as Pap tests and HPV tests, are crucial for early detection and treatment. Safe sexual practices, including consistent condom use, significantly reduce the risk of HPV transmission. #CervicalCancerAwarenessMonth #January2025 #RaiseAwareness #CervicalCancer #HPV #HPVvaccine #CervicalCancerAwareness #CancerPrevention #WomensHealth #JehangirHospital #WeAddCare

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) should not come as a surprise when discussed in relation to the male gender, as men often serve as carriers of the virus. Despite the low incidence of penile cancer, which is also caused by HPV, it is crucial to understand that HPV is not gender-specific, it affects both men and women. It is important to dispel the misconception that cervical cancer is a self-generated ailment. In reality, it is often contracted through sexual intercourse, with the virus finding its way to the cervix and potentially resulting in cervical cancer. Amarachi Blessing Okwu has also joined her voice in breaking the myth that HPV only affects women. You also can join the campaign to debunk the myths surrounding HPV and cervical cancer. Together, we can raise awareness and educate communities. The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has issued a draft recommendation for cervical cancer screening aimed at enhancing early detection while minimizing unnecessary interventions. Key recommendations: Women aged 21 to 29 years: Continue screening every 3 years using the Pap test. Women aged 30 to 65 years: Opt for screening every 5 years with an HPV test. Other effective alternatives include: A Pap test every 3 years. Co-testing (Pap and HPV) every 5 years. Discontinuation of screening: Women under 21. Women over age 65 with a history of normal screening results. Women who have had a total hysterectomy for non-cancer reasons. #cancer #womenshealth #advancing #health https://lnkd.in/eZwaAKts

Globally, it is the 4th most common cancer among women. Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop in the cervix, the bridge between the uterus and vagina. While there are many culprits behind cervical cancer, one of the most prevalent is human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common infection that about 70% of people get at some point in their lives. Two types of HPV, HPV-16 and HPV-18, cause more than 70% of cervical cancer cases. #HPV #HumanPapillomaVirus cervicalcancer #cancer

Cervical cancer, the 4th most common cancer in women worldwide, is mainly (99%) caused by high-risk, which is sexually transmitted. HPV DNA detection, recommended by #WHO has higher sensitivity(90-100%) compared with VIA and cytology, and it is more cost-effective and suitable for all settings. HPV self-sampling is additional approach recommended by# WHO Guideline on Self-Care Intervention for health care. The self-sampling approach enables women to collect sample alone in private, health facility or any convenient location, which can encourage women to access screening and treatment services and also improve screening coverage. In line with the recommendation of #WHO, MMT offers the most user-friendly sampling approach -Urine Sample for all its HPV DNA detection kits. Urine sampling approach is non-invasive, more private, and more convenient for almost anyone to collect samples by themselves. Thanks to the excellent clinical performance of MMT's HPV kit, HPV urine sample detection yields accurate results with the LoD of 300 copies/mL.
