99% of people would walk right past this poster. Why? ❌ The dates are barely visible, you can't evoke any urgency if the show date isn't the first thing people see. ❌ It's generic. This is probably the same poster that your rival school used last year, and your audience won't even realize this is a new event. How do we fix this? ✅ Design it by hand. If you have an artistically inclined student or team member, utilize them! If not, hiring a specialized theatrical designer is your best bet. You spend hundreds and hundreds of hours perfecting your on-stage production, STOP letting something as simple as the poster deter people from coming.

One of the most exciting opportunities I’ve had in my career as an Event Architect has been stepping into the role of Art Director for a few Nollywood movie scenes. It’s amazing how many parallels exist between directing a movie scene and planning an event. Both require attention to detail, a deep understanding of storytelling, and the ability to bring a vision to life. But here’s the takeaway for my fellow event planners and consultants: growth opportunities are everywhere. Whether you’re directing a film scene or orchestrating a wedding, there’s so much room for creativity, leadership, and professional expansion. If you stay curious and open to new experiences, you’ll find opportunities for growth in every corner of your career. The events industry is vast, and the world beyond it holds so much potential for us to thrive. #EventPlanning #GrowthMindset #EventConsultant

Parenting Educator/Consultant/Parenting Coach for Organizations - I coach and consult parents and organizations to understand, support and launch resilient and confident young creative artists.
Teens and young adults pursuing careers in or adjacent to performing arts deal with a lot of misconceptions about their goals. So many times they deal with adults assuming they must be pursuing fame. As I think about why this is, I’m struck by one reasons this may be in particular. Outside of so many only have a reference point of “fame” in connection to actors, music artists, dancers etc. But they don’t understand and/or recognize the plethora of arts related careers that have no general visibility. The sound engineers, directors, composers, set designers, wardrobe/costume designers, make-up artists, animators, voice-over actors, copywriters, video game designers…the list is endless. Nor do they think about all of the professional arts they come in contact with in everyday life. The live music at dinner, the paintings from local artists in the coffee shop, the company dancers at the performance of The Nutcracker they enjoyed over the holidays. As a mom of performing artists, I truly hope we can change the narrative and lean in to more recognition and understanding of what a “successful”career in the arts may include. There are a huge number of artistic careers that are port of our world. And they have nothing to do with pursing fame. #career #performingarts #parenting #goalsetting #artscareer #momlife

#careertip Tuesday So, you want to be an Art Director? Tip No.16 - Learn to trust your Producer (or find another one) One of the most important allies an Art Director can have is their Production Team. If you’re lucky you’ll get to work with a person/ people that will go above and beyond to make sure you are in line with everything. Some of the Leads and Directors tend to create the schedules themselves while i would encourage you to work on the schedules together with your peers on the Production side. They will make sure everyone is aware of the deadlines, keep reminding your team/-s about priorities and help organize every day's work. Great Producers are worth their weight in gold (so look for smaller ones of course).

Dear Recruiter, You reach out saying my profile is a perfect match, promise to share details, then vanish. It’s a frustratingly common experience. I became a team lead early, with fewer years of experience. Is that really my fault? Now, when I apply, I’m rejected for not having 8+ years—even though I’ve led teams. So, does skill come with years, or with the quality of work? Some recruiters acknowledge my work but say, “Senior Art Directors with your experience earn less, and you’re paid like an Associate Creative Director.” So now I can’t either be a Senior Art Director or a ACD. What does someone like me do when quick growth in my career is what holds me back now? It’s a paradox that makes the hiring process feel like a joke. #JobSearchJourney #RecruitmentChallenges #CareerGrowth #ExperienceVsSkill #JobHunting #CareerParadox #TalentOverYears #HiringReality #JobMarketInsights #CareerStruggles #EarlyCareerGrowth #LinkedInVoices #WorkExperience #CreativeIndustry
