A recruitment drive by Air India Airport Services Limited for airport loaders led to a chaotic situation outside of Mumbai airport. According to media reports, More than 25,000 applicants turned up for over 2,200 vacancies, causing a stampede-like atmosphere. The company's staff struggled to manage the massive crowd as visuals showed applicants jostling to reach the form counters. Reports indicate that many applicants had to wait for hours without food and water, causing several to feel unwell. The recruitment drive, aimed at hiring loaders to handle luggage, cargo, and food supplies on aircraft, saw an overwhelming response. Each aircraft needs at least five loaders for efficient operation. The walk-in interview was held on July 16 near Mumbai Airport's Kalina area. The report said that applicants gathered at gate no. 5 near the Sahar cargo complex, quickly escalating into chaos. Authorities intervened to prevent a stampede, asking applicants to deposit their resumes and leave the spot. George Abram, general secretary of the Aviation Industry Employees Guild, criticized the mismanagement of the recruitment process, claiming 50,000 job seekers had appeared. However, Rambabu Chintalacheruvu, CEO of AI Airport Services Limited, estimated the number to be around 15,000. The minimum qualifications for the positions were SSC/10th pass, with a maximum age of 23, and a fixed-term contract basis of three years.
