Nearly nine in 10 professionals (87%) are interested in trying “chronoworking” — a model allowing employees to work according to their natural sleeping patterns, according to a new survey from Robert Walters. “Nearly four years on from lockdown and the onset of remote and hybrid working, and it is surprising to hear that companies and their employees have not found a ‘flow’ with flexible working,” said Martin Fox, director of Robert Walters. https://lnkd.in/gi-UcxCB #HR #FlexWork #Chronoworking

Flexibility is ambiguous, and honestly some companies like it that way because people feel less empowered to use it. However, that’s not great practice as it leads to resentment from staff, disengagement and ultimately a loss of talent to companies with better policies. What does flexibility mean to you?
“Yes we offer flexible working” is a line many employers use, but what does that even mean? Who knows?! It’s a broad catch all term to appease people looking for flexibility in their work, but does it mean when / where / informal / formal… all the above? According to the new study - ‘PayFit UK - Mind the flexible working gap’ - 83% of the respondents felt their company’s current flexible working policy needed improvement, pointing to a flexible working ‘policy gap’ that businesses need to address. Only 35% of employees are happy with their organisations flexible working model, with men (40%) being happier than women (32%). When asked what flexibility meant to them there was a large scope in answers, but 52% of respondents said it was about “choosing when and where they work”. The main takeaway here is flexibility means different things to different people and people are unclear on what their company policy truly means. Businesses have had to adapt quickly with the rapidly shifting landscape of workplace needs and desires, but this has led to flimsy and unclear policies that don’t really fit the needs of employees and create confusion around what is and isn’t acceptable use. 🔆 34% want clearer flexible working guidelines 🔆 30% want flexible work to be embraced in their workplace culture 🔆 25% want more trust from managers So people want more flexibility but they also want clearer guidelines and structure placed around it. When you don’t put guidelines around what is acceptable people tend to shy away from using it through fear of the optics when it comes to their managers and colleagues. At Blinktime we call it “Acceptability Anxiety”. It draws parallels with unlimited annual leave, where people tend to take less than they would if they were given an allocation. People need parameters to work within to feel comfortable using such policies. Constraints are freedom. Another key takeaway is that an overwhelming majority of people (84%) that want clearer guidelines are aged 18-34. In other words the most junior members of a company, which alludes to an imbalance in power when it comes to flexible working. Senior management who own their diaries tend to be more comfortable using it whereas younger staff aren’t. Do you think your business has a fully clear and understandable policy that all your staff can access equally? What would you do differently to improve it? I know what I would do 👀 #Flexibility #Policy #FlexibleWorking #HybridWorking #OrgDesign #hrtech #Blinktime #hr #peopleops #futureofwork

Strategizing Flexibility In The Workplace Many workers are looking for workplace flexibility, but flexibility can occur in many different ways. For example, workplace flexibility could involve flexible scheduling, hours, location, dress code, or even how your company handles PTO. There is no one right way of providing flexibility. Consider the needs of your organization and the pros and cons of each. I recommend reaching out to employees through surveys to get their insights. #FlexibleWorking #WorkLifeBalance #HR #EmployeeBenefits #employeeexperience https://lnkd.in/g2Pg22PN

Flexible workspaces -- is it just a buzz word? Not according to A Future Forum Pulse survey where they interviewed over 10,000 full-time employees and found that 93% of desk workers want a say in when they work, while 81% of employees want control over where they work. Given the survey’s respondent base, it’s safe to say that similar views likely prevail among your workforce. #FlexibleWork #WorkLifeBalance #Productivity #EmployeeWellbeing
