My job entails oversight to ensure that the project is following environmental regulations and environmental permits. Making sure that they are submitting submittals when they should. Keeping the proper record keeping. So this is one thing that me and my team will inspect this filter bag. And the purpose of this is to keep the sediment from getting out into the Bay. We'd like to make sure that all of this sediment that our project creates stays on the project site so it doesn't go out into the water and start impacting the aquatic life. We also have a wastewater treatment plant that treats the processed water that our project creates to ensure that by the time we discharge it into the Bay, it is also meeting water quality regulations and does not have an adverse impact to the resources. A large part of what the project is entrusted with is ensuring that the birds are not hurt by project activities. We have dogs on the project site and they're trained with SPCA methods to not hurt the birds, but they just chase them to keep them from becoming comfortable on island. All of this grid wire encompasses the entire S island. It was installed to deter them from landing on the island and laying eggs, making Nestle on the island. And we encourage them onto the Department of Wildlife Resources sister project at Fort Wool with the accompanying barges to keep the bird safe and to keep the project workers safe and to keep the project rolling. These are the shipwreck Timbers that we found on the project site when they were dredging for the North Island expansion. They started pulling these up as they were dredging. So I called our cultural resource folks in central office and I said, you know, I think we may have found something. This is likely the remnants of a schooner from 1817 to 1834 and that it was transporting stone. That was used for the construction of Fort Monroe at the time. I love my job.

Once a potential environmental concern is identified in an EDD evaluation, we conduct soil sampling to verify if soils in a proposed project area may be classified as Clean Fill when excavated. Working ahead of the construction crew allows for better project planning and scheduling.
