We strongly condemn the excessive use of force by Pakistani security forces against peaceful protesters in Chaman. At least three people have been killed and 38 others injured due to Frontier Corps’ firing. Disturbing visuals show armored vehicles patrolling the streets and attempting to suppress the peaceful assembly. Reports also indicate that protesters have been abducted, and internet and media services have been disrupted. Since October 2023, residents of Chaman have peacefully protested the Pakistani government's new passport and visa requirements for crossing the Afghan border. This policy disrupts a long-standing tradition of easy movement that supported cross-border trade and the livelihoods of many, particularly small businesses. It is deeply concerning that the state of Pakistan has always prioritized force over dialogue. This peaceful sit-in has been disrupted by security forces several times with aggressive measures, including indiscriminate firing, detaining protesters and their leader, and even burning tents. This heavy-handed approach reflects a failure to address the protesters' legitimate concerns. We urge the Pakistani government to immediately de-escalate the situation, respect the right to peaceful assembly, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the protesters. We call for an independent investigation into human rights violations and a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and livelihoods of the people in Chaman.

It's good but not enough. NATO should have the balls to start sending troops, because that's what #Ukraine is starting to run out of. The terrorists have much more disposable human resources than Ukraine. I know, #Russia will threaten to use nukes, but better to face a threat now when it's not fully recovered than when it'll be fully prepared to expand the war - because they'll do, that's what terrorists do, they thrive on causing pain and Ukraine is just the start, the rest of Eastern Europe will follow. So grow some bal*s #NATO, and start sending troops, it'll inevitably lead to a direct conflict anyway, so why not take advantage now.

🧨 UPDATE: The political discussion about private Silvester-Fireworks Ban in Berlin in simple language The Police Union: Private fireworks on Silvester has to stop - here's a petition The People: Spot on! (almost 2 million people sign the petition, the police union submits it to the government) The Government in response: Olaf Scholz (Bundeskanzler): Banning fireworks completely is too extreme and weird. We need to find a compromise Nancy Faeser (Federal Interior Minister): Complete ban? nah. Just define your ban-zones in your cities. Problem solved The Fire Fighters (!!!): We're skeptical about this ban. Just increase regulation on the fireworks we sell here in Germany and btw we need body-cams The people: What about the fireworks people make at home or the ones they bring from Poland? For example, the Bombekugel that destroyed people's houses and led to people losing body parts such as eyes? Kai Wegner (CDU): Got this covered. We just need border control.

This week, the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum gathered Georgian civil society representatives and EU and international organisations to discuss the current crisis in #Georgia. Since the Georgian Dream government's decision to suspend the country's EU integration, protests have been going unabated, reflecting deep public discontent with the ruling Georgian Dream party. The protests have been met with a surge of violent measures, including hundreds of arrests and incidents of police brutality and repression. Civil society and independent media will not be able to continue operating freely in the existing context, and the risk to end up in a Russia-like scenario is extremely high. Civil society therefore asked the EU, its Member States, and international organisations to: 🔴 Impose sanctions on Georgian officials to isolate the Georgian Dream government ⚪️ Meet with civil society and opposition representatives 🔴 Invite civil society and academia instead of Georgian Dream representatives to high-level meetings They also asked that civil society be supported through 🔴 Stronger political and direct financial support ⚪️ Increasing pressure on the Georgian Dream government to release the people who have been arrested 🔴 Continuing support to the individuals who have been charged with criminal and administrative offences and their rehabilitation. We are living in truly transformative times, both here in #Georgia and across the globe. While much remains uncertain, one truth stands out: we are witnessing the remarkable emergence of civil society—a process that holds profound significance. For us Georgians, this moment is especially meaningful. Historically, the right to a vibrant, self-determined civil society was curtailed under the weight of imperial rule. Today, as these structures begin to take shape and flourish, it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring pursuit of freedom. This is not just a moment to observe; it is one to celebrate and nurture as we collectively shape a future grounded in shared values and active civic engagement.

The ICJ judgement is clear. There is no future for Israel based on the narrative of its radicals.... anyone who claimed or wants to claim new territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog. The only way out of the conflict is thus to learn to live together as equals and to share the country as one union. Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous local communities and flexibly spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in two confederations of communities (nations), an Israeli and a Palestinian one, both sharing the country as a union, this is a hybrid outcome with elements of both a two- and a one-state solution. There is space for all cultural identities this way without any minority versus majority issues. Currently, such scenario seems very far fetched, but, the Israelis and Palestinians belong to Canaan and nobody outside is waiting for an(other) exodus of any of the two. www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo
Just after the international court of justice announced that occupation of west band is illegal Israeli occupation forces protect Israeli settler mobs as they attack Palestinians and their properties in Huwwara, south of Nablus. Repost — Amnesty International South Asia, Regional Office (Official) PAKISTAN: The government must fully protect and ensure the rights of protesters and immediately rescind the ‘𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙩-𝙤𝙣-𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩’ orders that provide undue and excessive powers to the military. In response to protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad, the authorities must exercise maximum restraint, aiming to prevent and de-escalate violence and avoid the use of force. Any use of force must be lawful and no more than is necessary and proportionate, and the authorities must take all necessary measures to prevent arbitrary deprivation of life, including by ensuring that law enforcement actions are adequately planned to minimize the risk to life. There must also be effective accountability for any unlawful use of force. The severe restrictions on assembly, movement, and mobile and internet services, as well as arbitrary detentions of thousands of protesters across Pakistan, particularly in Islamabad, are a grave violation of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly, movement, and expression. As protesters enter the capital, law enforcement officials have used unlawful and excessive force, including tear gas, live ammunition, and rubber bullets against PTI protesters. Even if protests become non-peaceful, the authorities must respect and ensure the protesters’ rights to life and freedom from torture and other ill-treatment. The Pakistani authorities have obligations under international human rights law to provide an enabling environment for the protesters. Amnesty International urges the government to ensure that the right to freedom of peaceful assembly is respected and protected. Those detained solely for exercising their right to peaceful assembly must be released immediately. #pakistan #globalpeace #news #imrankhan #amnestyinternational #unitednations #internationalcourtofjustice #humanrights #freedomofspeech #pressfreedom #democracy #rashidatlaib

Amnesty International calls for an immediate and independent investigation into the deadly crackdown on opposition protesters in Pakistan. In its statement, Amnesty International emphasized the urgent need for a transparent inquiry into the brutal operation against members of the opposition party in Pakistan. According to Amnesty, once again, protesters in Pakistan have faced a merciless, barbaric, and deadly crackdown by authorities. What is the truth behind the viral video of Rangers pushing a worker off a container at D-Chowk? Burnt trucks, shattered vehicles, broken glass, scattered shoes, and posters of Imran Khan: the aftermath of the security forces' operation at D-Chowk. The rising violence, suspension of mobile internet services, mass detentions, and dangerous rhetoric against PTI protesters by authorities reflect an alarming intolerance toward the right to peaceful political assembly across the country. Amnesty further noted similar restrictions were imposed earlier this year on Baloch and Pashtun protesters. #HumanRights #AmnestyInternational #FreedomOfAssembly #Pakistan #PTIProtests #PoliticalCrackdown #Justice #Transparency

Insurgent-linked violence in Thailand's deep south is hardly a new thing, and while levels of violence have gradually declined since 2014, the latest developments suggest that the security situation will remain volatile in the year ahead. The defendants in the "Tak Bai" case - involving the alleged unlawful deaths of 85 Muslim protesters in Tak Bai, Narathiwat in October 2004 - all vanished ahead 25 October 2024, the day the case's statute of limitations would expire. Now that the statute of limitations has expired, out comes one of the defendants who has gone back to work. Pheu Thai had the chance to earn some goodwill in the deep south and show that it was prepared to act differently from its predecessor administrations. This is a missed opportunity for the ruling coalition, and one which is likely to further poison the prospects for a resumption of peace talks with the BRN in 2025. https://lnkd.in/gDu5X-KX #thailand #takbai #controlrisks
