Chinese officials forcibly shut down the Gangjong Sherig Norbu School, the most popular school for Tibetan students from all three regions of Tibet, in "accordance" with Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) policies. Founded in 1994 in Tibet's Qinghai province, the school is renowned for offering lessons in Tibetan language, culture, tradition, religion, and medicine. It's recent closure underscores the CCP’s continued efforts to dismantle Tibetan language and culture as part of its larger strategy to erase Tibetan cultural identity. In response to the CCP’s relentless crackdown in Tibet, on July 12, @POTUS signed the "Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act” to advance a peaceful resolution to the long-standing dispute between Tibet and the CCP through constructive dialogue. HRF strongly condemns the #CCP for its ongoing and systematic efforts to undermine the identities of ethnic minorities, including the deliberate and ruthless campaign to erase Tibetan cultural and linguistic heritage.

Character building: When the ancient Chinese decided to live in peace, they made the great wall of China. They thought no one can climb it due to its height. During the first 100 year of its existence, the Chinese were invaded thrice. ... And everytime, the hordes of enemy infantry had no need of penetrating or climbing over the wall...because each time they bribed the guards and came through the doors. The Chinese built the wall but forgot the character-building of the wall-guards. Thus the building of human character comes BEFORE building of anything else..... Thats what our Students need today. Like one of the Orientalists said: If you want to destroy the civilization of a nation, there are 3 ways: 1. Destroy their family structure 2. Destroy their education system 3. Lower their role models and references 1. In order to destroy the family; undermine the role of Motherhood, make her feel ashamed of being a housewife. 2. To destroy the education: you should give no importance to the Teacher, and lower his place in society so that the students despise him. 3. To lower the role models: you should undermine their scholars, doubt them untill no one listens to them or trusts them. For when a conscious mother disappears, a dedicated teacher disappears and there's a downfall of role models, WHO will teach the youngsters VALUES?... Give it a thought! Have we not been invaded? Successfully! ECONOMIC GROWTH & CHARACTER FORMATION Basic education is more important than higher education in determining the progress of a nation. We are lax in the first from the qualitative point of view. However much we have strived to improve our school curriculum, we are missing a key element, namely character-formation. Without formation of good character - arguably also the right character - our famed demographic dividend will not deliver the hoped-for results. Work ethic is an important factor of productivity. Mental stamina is another. Both do not come naturally to the desired extent; a good part of the pair come by nurture. Muslim Madrassas and Christian Sunday-schools are two examples of how good work ethic and mental stamina can be formed or augmented through nurture. Our country lacks similiar systems for the vast majority of our 25 million annual, therefore total roughly 250 million, children in the 5 - 15 age group. Madrassas and Catechism cover not more than 15% - 18%. We need to fill up the lacuna, and not merely by religious instruction: character-formation is a different task. One hour every week will suffice provided the right instruction is delivered. Maybe corporates should turn their attention to this, together, for achieving greater competitiveness, especially vis-a-vis China. JAI HIND!

That's biopolitics for Michel Foucault. It's about power shifting from "kill or punish" to "control and optimize" life. The key here is biopower: the ability to influence life at the population level. This power isn't just wielded by governments, but also by corporations shaping consumer habits or social media influencing mental health. When used by dominant groups, biopower can discriminate against marginalized communities based on health, genetics, or economic status. RETIRED I don't need work! - concentrating on Egypt and Helping real needs by trying to organise funding via social networks for HIV/Aids activists
Casual observation points to a strong North American and European domination of formal theological education of Protestant Christians carried out in Africa and elsewhere in the majority world. A great deal of it is engaged in English. Even that which is not in English is often translated from English. Widely recognised problems in the African church include its dependence on the West and its orientation to the prosperity gospel. This short article uses a simple example to illustrate how indeed the failure on the side of formal theological education to take account of inter-linguistic and intercultural differences is contributing to the prosperity gospel, the generation and perpetuation of unhealthy dependency on the West, and other widespread maladies of the non-Western church. Surprisingly, perhaps, the linguistically related mechanism of translation brought to light is consistently ignored in the wider literature on the indigenisation of theology. This author advocates for theological education using languages that are indigenous to the majority world. https://lnkd.in/eUStKmHr

Managing Director, IIPE; Coordinator, Global Campaign for Peace Education; Professor, Justice and Peace Studies
Meet Sener Elcil: "In Cyprus, we experience a division which is dominated by ethnic differences and nationalism while religion has not been one of the primary reasons for conflict. The educational systems are mainly responsible for this division. The issue began with teachers who arrived in Cyprus from Turkey and Greece at the start of the 1900's. With nationalism, racism and chauvinism entering official teaching, divisions which later developed into physical conflicts, started in minds. The most significant thing is to break down these barriers in people’s minds and eradicate discriminatory elements through peace education."

The quote below is from an officially-endorsed account of one of the most well-known international schools in northern China The Chefoo School Not heard of it? Well, that’s probably because it was closed in 1951. From a description in the SOAS archives: “The Chefoo School was founded in 1880 by the China Inland Mission under James Hudson Taylor in Chefoo [modern-day Yantai in Shandong]. Its aim was to provide an education for the children of missionaries; and the business and diplomatic communities. Chefoo School was a Christian boarding school, run in accordance with the China Inland Mission's regime. The curriculum came to be based on the British system, heavily weighted in favour of classical courses designed to prepare students for entrance to British universities. There was also an emphasis on religious education. The principal took prayers daily, and there were two Sunday services. The school was also strong in sports such as football and rowing.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/etZZcK7W And honestly, it really is worth reading. Even more interesting, is this book about the school (available in full for free online) published in 1931, by the China Inland Mission: https://lnkd.in/eEtx3MrE It’s hard to capture the entire book, again, it really is worth reading (or at least skimming to see the photos) but some takeaways are: 1. “Parents who, in response to the call of God and the needs of the unreached millions, have made their home in districts hundreds of miles from Chefoo: parents, some of whom have not seen their children for three years.” 2. [Discussing outbreaks of disease] “Largely owing to the volume of prayer centered on Chefoo from all parts of China as well as from other countries, these illnesses seldom assume a serious nature.” 3. “The water rushed down the usually dry gullies in raging torrents, sweeping out to sea human beings (it was estimated that more than 2000 Chinese lost their lives in two hours), animals, furniture, clothing, logs, vegetation of every description, all in one indescribable mass. For some days it was quite impossible for the boys and girls to enjoy their daily dip in the sea.” 4. “The cold seemed unbearable, and when we were taken for a walk twice a day, whatever the weather, I often wept with the pain. Cold baths in the morning were the rule, though in the winter some warm water was added. The Spartan element in our training is one of the things for which I have been most grateful since. It was not confined to physical matters, but touched all sides of our life. I connect it chiefly with Miss Sanderson, to whom, beyond all my teachers, I look back with gratitude and affection. She had a motto which she was fond of quoting to us: ‘Excuse others, thyself never’.” #educationinchina

Conference Paper: The Far-Reaching Consequences of British Education for the National Security of India Abstract: I would like to begin this article with the argument that our civilization had reached a point where inner knowledge was valued more than external and material currencies; where natural and applied philosophy, poetry, arts, and crafts were the more celebrated pursuits of mankind than the simple attainment of biophysical enjoyments; where the doctrines of sublimation were crafted and mastered in various taught and practical forms, and where religion was indistinguishable from everyday living--well before the Britishers arrived on the face of the subcontinent and slowly began to drown out our native potentials and replace them with a pro-European and stale viewpoint. I argue it has now become a matter of national security that the smartest minds are simply leaving the country and going to Europe or America, i.e., the very intelligence of our civilisation is leaking out. It is leading to a deterioration of four kinds of capital: psychological, social, economic, and political. Furthermore, with the most excellent of our citizens not choosing a career in politics, the leadership quotients of our nation are diminishing. I also argue that such a situation has arisen because of a 'colonial hangover', by virtue of which the very mindsets of our populations have been changed to look at the Europeans or Americans with adulation. #NationalSecurity #AjitDoval #Education #Bharat #Psychology #Society #India https://lnkd.in/gvCV3Khh
