Erin Platts, UK CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking, has confirmed her intention to step down from her role in December this year. She will stay in post until December to help identify a successor with the same passion, expertise and deep knowledge of the innovation economy. Thereafter Erin will continue to be a special advisor to HSBC and the Innovation Bank. In January, she’ll take up her new role as CEO of Octopus Ventures. We are delighted to announce that Emily Turner has been appointed as the new permanent CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking UK effective from February and subject to regulatory approval. She replaces Erin Platts who will continue to support HSBC as a special advisor after she leaves in December. Emily joins us from Citi and brings extensive experience of driving growth within the innovation ecosystem, both as an investor and as an operator. Over the past decade, Emily established and built-up Citi Ventures UK, led Citi’s Global Institutional Strategic Investing group, and developed multiple early-stage companies as part of Citi's internal incubator. Most recently, Emily held the position of MD and Head of Business Development, Citi’s Client Organisation. Emily commented: “I’m excited to be joining HSBC Innovation Banking at this crucial juncture in its growth journey. Legacy systems in large companies and the time it takes to change them can be the biggest blockers, holding back progress. I've spent the last 3 weeks trying to open a business bank account for one of my companies - with the bank that already has 3 of my business accounts. I had to share more company information that an investment DD process and still Connor Brooks and his so-called Innovation Team had the excuse ready that my PaaS business was something the Bank couldn't get behind. I guess his profile blurb is just that - blurb - As a Senior Vice President with HSBC Innovation Banking's Early-Stage Practice in London, I help my ambitious clients navigate their banking and financing needs to reach their next round faster. In this role I bring several years of startup operator and investor experience to the table, drawing on a broad network to help increase each client's probability of success in scaling to their next phase of growth. Do not bank with HSBC - I will now start to move all my personal and business accounts from this bank.
