We recently tested your knowledge of the names of some cybersecurity scams – and 40% of you got the answer wrong! (The correct answer was quashing). Whaling is a type of phishing attack that targets high-level corporate employees. Posing as leaders within an organisation, scammers use email, text messages or phone calls to attempt to lure recipients into leaking sensitive corporate data and personal information or authorising large payments. Essentially, they’re going after the ‘big fish’ – hence the term whaling.
