Cultural Change.... It is happening worldwide... Bullfighting bans in Spain, Cockfighting in Costa Rica... These bloodsports are historical/cultural activities that cannot be banned quickly... it takes sometime decades for communities/countries to recognize that this disregard for animal welfare does not pass the basic human dignity test. But eventually community standards override cultural history. Celebrate and push so that this positive trend continues. #bloodsports #animalprotection #cockfighting

Push the Government now while they are hanging in there and you might get what you wish for. Compassion in world farming has done that and at last, the government have seen this as a political stance to do something right, with the hope to get people to vote them back in. I'd like to say it was a compassion for farm animals made by the government, but it is not. I can see through the smoke screen. They want votes, they are badly after votes in the next election, and they believe agreeing to stop this from going on, will bring them those votes. Stick to voting for whomever you feel you are going to go for in the next election, it's taken the Tories at least 50 years to answer with the correct answer in this campaign to stop the live exports. All they had to say 50 yrs ago, was No to live exports, but they couldn't even do that! We now see a happier future for our farm animals - We can at least hope, no more misery of travelling long hours with no food or water, suffering in the heat, crammed into tiny crates with no space to move, being trampled by other animals because they've fallen down and got their legs trapped in the cruel bars that they stand on or look out of. I hope that animal welfare will now crank up the anti in our own country and be the voice of compassion in world farming, as well as being the compassion for our own animals. What an amazing achievement for everyone who campaigned to ban live transport over the past two decades- from Brightlingsea and Coventry transport protests in the 80’s to 90’s to now! Why has it taken so long though for the U.K. to do the compassionate and humane thing and ban this cruelest of trades. One that frequently transports unweaned calves on long sea journeys across days at sea, or allows cattle to be at sea days on end. Such as the recent shipment of 19,000 desperate cattle in the City of Cape Town,having started their journey on 11 February, stranded there 8 days later, waiting to make the further journey to their fate in Saudi Arabia. The city complained of the stench, but not of the fate of the animals! The live animal transport trade is cruel, but should not be seen as separate to the cheap chicken on our dinner plates. It’s all part of our broken food system, that has grown so large in scale, consolidating supply chains, mechanising on an industrial model, that sees 80% of broiler chickens raised in the standard way in the U.K. That means a chicken grows to its weight for slaughter in around 81 days- 850m chickens a year (according to the Eating Better Alliance)- giving us chicken worth about the same as a takeaway coffee, except coffee isn’t sentient. So well done to the U.K. for leading the way on being a humane society by a law that at least bans one of the worst aspects of our food on our plate, but give a thought to all those animals at the centre of our food system.

Often times kids think these pills are trusted prescription medications like Vicodin, Xanax, Percocet, oxycodone, and Adderall. 1 in 4 adolescent overdose fatalities in this country are caused by fentanyl-laced pills. The DEA reported 61% of tablets seized in 2022 contained a potentially lethal dose of illicit fentanyl (2 milligrams). At one of our local branches, the number has risen to 77%. This problem is out of control. We need more education and advocacy around fentanyl awareness and prevention. Please, talk to your kids about fentanyl. Talk to your schools about awareness. Get naloxone for your home, office, restaurant, and carry on. Ask your schools if they have overdose protocols in place and naloxone available on site. We need your help to fight this deadly epidemic for the voices who have been silenced by fentanyl: our kids, our family, our loved ones. All the animals on this planet endure cruelty, violence, and death largely due to human actions. We, as humans, have become the most destructive inhabitants on Earth, a place where every form of life deserves a chance to flourish. The pervasive impact of our presence has often led to the suffering and decline of numerous species. This raises critical questions about our responsibilities and the ethical implications of our choices. It compels us to consider how we might coexist more harmoniously with the other creatures that share our world, underscoring the urgent need for changes in how we treat the planet and its diverse inhabitants. Humans have the capacity to be caretakers rather than destroyers, and recognizing this is the first step towards fostering a more compassionate and sustainable world.

Abusers abuse. The Naturewatch Foundation campaign is aimed at helping change policy and legislation to recognise when animals are part of domestic abuse. Personally, I’d like to see all those responsible for public protection, including the judiciary, aware of cases such as this. It’s hardly an isolated incident either. Pls s/s. The practice of using barbaric glue traps to capture small rodents, and such, needs to end. They cause painful, long, gruelling deaths, where these animal people break limbs, pull joints apart, starve, while in excruciating pain, etc. Even bigger animal people can be caught in these unneccessary horrible devices, as dogs, cats, and more, get their noses stuck, thus suffocating to death, and birds' wings stick together, inhibiting flight then death, as well. Words sometimes fail to express the depth of such situations, but my heart is breaking for those in Israel and Palestine. I heard a US influencer say yesterday, "in all honesty, it's not my problem. I care about what is happening in my own country". It took me a while, but I do understand this point of view. If we all took on everything that was on the news all the time, none of us would be left standing. And yet, this problem IS everyone's to be concerned about. We are ONE Earth, ONE humanity. We can't shut off and desensitize to numb ourselves to the pain. We're all connected, whether we like it or not. News has been getting closer to home recently, first with people I know in the Maui wildfires and now with Israelis I am acquainted with. When the terror is right on your doorstep, I imagine you would think differently and want the rest of the world to give a damn. Reading 'Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet' recently has given me hope and strength. Thich Nhat Hanh's own experiences with the Vietnam war were horrific, yet somehow he remained compassionate throughout and turned his anger into engaged action, taking neither side and remaining neutral, advocating for peace. May we all advocate for that peace that every human deserves, and which can seem so elusive at times. Returning to the breath to calm, taking a mindful walk when strong emotions arise before responding in a discussion... these are ways we can practice Zen in our own lives. Change begins within. We may not have all the answers to these complex issues, but I know something like this is a good place to start.

The current Middle East conflict is an abomination against humanity. It calls for an immediate truce and pledge for mutually beneficial economic development. The United States rallied 28 nations to rebuild Europe and Japan after World War II (70 years ago!). The world can create an equally transformational miracle today. Despite terrorist origins, the PLO has recognized the State of Israel. Israel needs to acknowledge the 70 year tragedy and second-class status of Palestinians within and outside her borders. She must participate in an equitable solution which is the only hope for her survival and a permanent peace in the region. The world cannot let a handful of despairing and desperate Hamas terrorists stand in the way of a practical and permanent solution. Now is the time to mobilize massive humanitarian aid and economic development resources as rapidly as we currently mobilize for war. The hopeless inheritance of military escalation as the only feasible response to terrorism CAN be supplanted with an immediate truce and a negotiated peace. THE ONLY VIABLE SOLUTION IS WIN-WIN.
