The reality of people who harm being involved in sport is a challenge and something which must be managed effectively. However policies and procedures which are blanket approaches will not assist in safeguarding decision making because of the complexities of each case. These complexities are linked with type of harm, is the harm within the sport / external / both, age of person of concern, current / non recent, convicted / being investigated/ found not guilty/ never investigated by statutory services and the list goes on. Alongside someone who has been harmed / alleging they have been harmed and if they are within the sport / external. Fundamentally there is a need for sports to have appropriate investigation and risk assessment processes in place to manage possible risk without causing further trauma and harm. This panel is preceded by The Army of Survivors and Joanna Maranhão highlighting the victim/ survivor/ affected person perspectives This panel then seeks to raise awareness to the complexity of the subject and consider what is good practice and what needs to be in place for effective management of risk. I am joined by an incredible panel Sarah Ochwada , Paul Stephenson and Simon Bailey CBE, QPM, DL all of whom bring a unique perspective as well as my own experience in assessing and managing sexual, violent and domestic abusive persons . So if you are involved at any level of safeguarding and decision making in sport this conference will generate stimulating discussion and inform safe sport going forward
