Roughly 6.5 million cats and dogs entered U.S. animal shelters in 2023, according to Shelter Animals Count–and there's not much sign of slowing. It’s no secret that people are struggling and when people struggle, so do their pets. As families seek support for housing, utilities, and food: What do people need to support their pets as well? HASS is answering that question through our Intake Triage Project this year! Read more below. https://lnkd.in/e67FsbgZ

NATIONAL ADOPT A SHELTER PET DAY Each year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30th raises awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters. #AdoptAShelterPet Animal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process. Since animals come in daily, the shelters must work quickly to ensure the animal's health and well being. Only then can they be adopted into their forever home. The day also encourages you to visit a shelter near you and find your new fur baby. Visit with the shelter to consider all the needs the dog or cat requires for the long term. #RealEstateMiami #MiamiShoresRealEstate #RealEstateMiamiShores #MiamiShoresRealEstate #RealEstateSouthFlorida #MiamiShores #MiamiRealEstate #RealEstate #Realtor #houseexpert #househunting #home #RealEstateAgent #RealEstateBroker #RealEstateExpert #RealEstateForSale #Realty #Broker #HomeForSale #HouseForSale #PropertyForSale #HomeForSaleMiami #HomeForSaleSouthFlorida

Thinking about adding a furry friend to your family? Consider adopting from an animal shelter. Here are some reasons why: 🐾 Save a Life: By adopting, you're giving a deserving animal a second chance at happiness. Every adoption helps reduce the number of animals in shelters and saves lives. 🐾 Unconditional Love: Shelter pets are incredibly grateful and loving. They have so much affection to give and often form deep bonds with their new families. 🐾 Variety of Choices: Whether you're looking for a playful puppy, a laid-back adult cat, or a unique mix, shelters have a diverse selection of pets waiting for their 'furever' Homes. 🐾 Support a Great Cause: Shelters are often run by dedicated volunteers and organisations. Your adoption helps support their mission and continue their crucial work. 🐾 Feel-Good Factor: There’s nothing quite like the joy of knowing you’ve made a positive impact. Plus, many shelter pets are already trained and socialized. Ready to find your new best friend? Visit your local animal shelter and meet some amazing animals who are eager to join your family. Adopt, don’t shop! #PetstreamVet #AdoptDontShop #PetCare #foreverhome #savealife

In just the first few weeks of January 2024, ~60 puppies have been dumped at just a single animal rescue centre, the Shenton Park Dogs Refuge Home, Perth, Western Australia. The Refuge is doing an amazing job but as a community we have to lift our game. Overall, ~75% of the dogs coming into the care of the Refuge are unsterilised. Desex. Your. Dogs. Don't wait for them to have an unwanted litter & leave charity volunteers to pick up the pieces. With all due respect to ppl's struggles, the brutal truth is that cost of living concerns are not an excuse for animal neglect and cruelty. I have met homeless youth who are responsible animal guardians, making payment plans with their vet to have their dogs desexed, vaccinated & wormed. - Before you welcome an animal into your family, plan for expected & unexpected costs - If the numbers don't add up, think about other ways to have dogs in your life (e.g., volunteering at a rescue organisation) - Adopt Don't Shop - Desex. Desex. Desex - If you encounter challenges covering costs, reach out for help as early as possible And to the WA legislators who are still yet to regulate The Stop Puppy Farming reforms (including dog breeding restrictions & mandatory animal welfare standards), please for the love of dog, act now to save animals and people from this heartache. https://lnkd.in/gNuC3Sh5 #AdoptDontShop #animalwelfare #animalrescue #rescuedogs #rescuedog #animals #dogs #dogsarefamily

"And that’s because the actual crisis starts about eleven steps before an animal ends up at a shelter. And because said crisis is big and unwieldy. This crisis really begins with a society that thinks of animals — including dogs and cats — as commodities. It may not happen overnight, or even over a generation, but humane education needs to be part of the landscape. In the meantime, we need to de-incentivize backyard breeding and prioritize programs that offer more lucrative and efficient ways to make money quickly. And at the shelter level, we need basic funding to provide the care animals need to thrive." HSI helped end dog farming in Korea by assisting in providing more lucrative and efficient ways to make money [https://lnkd.in/geRj6kAs]. I am not sure I have the solution to tell breeders not to breed, to tell pet stores not to sell... But I do know that minds can change. There was a long campaign for 'adopt, don't shop'...For a generation that sustained, then recently 'how to buy a puppy' surpassed the google search on 'how to adopt'. We just need to continue, we need to spread the word that more animals end up in shelters due to financial than behavior reasons. That #shelteranimalsdeservelovetoo
"This crisis should not be measured solely by how many animals lose their lives in shelters..."
We're doing it wrong.

💛 Safe with Foster 💛 Sharing my story gives me a higher survival rate. Pledges will help attract a rescue. Rescues cannot intake animals without fosters. A1920189 Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Shelly. I am a female, black and tan German Shepherd Dog mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 4 months old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jan 27, 2024. I am in kennel SOUTHB11. https://lnkd.in/gZuHztM6 Heartworm Status: Not Tested SHELTER NOTES While walking other dogs, Shelly is loudly and high-pitched barking at every dog that goes by her kennel even though her kennel is covered. Her reactivity also sets off the dogs around her. While her kennel was being cleaned, I put her in a temporary kennel at the end of my row where she barked at every dog that walked past even though I put a blanket over the kennel. With her removed, the dogs in the kennels neighboring hers were not as aroused when other dogs walked past them. When I went into her kennel to spot clean in the afternoon, she was constantly jumping on me or trying to find a way to push out of her kennel.
