Here's the breakdown of the mantra: - Lokah refers to the world or the universe. - Samastah means all beings or all living creatures. - Sukhino means happiness, joy, or well-being. - Bhavantu translates to ‘may they be’ or ‘let them be.’ So, the overall meaning of the mantra can be understood as ‘May all beings in the world be happy and free from suffering.’ It expresses the heartfelt wish for the welfare and happiness of all living beings, not just oneself or a specific group. Chanting or reciting this mantra is believed to cultivate a sense of empathy, compassion and interconnectedness with all beings. It reminds practitioners to extend their thoughts, prayers and actions beyond their individual concerns and to aspire for the well-being and happiness of all sentient beings, fostering a sense of universal love and peace. The bear named ‘Ina’ was kept in a tiny cage at a zoo in the Romanian city of Piatra Neamțfor 20 years before being rescued and relocated to a reserve in Zarnesti. And In this heart-wrenching tale of Ina, we find a profound lesson about the nature of freedom. Imagine Ina's world: a small, barren enclosure where the only space she could claim as her own was the path she traced around its perimeter each day. This was her routine, her reality, her life. She didn't dream of forests or rivers; she knew only the cold iron bars that confined her. Then, one miraculous day, Ina was set free. And what did she do? She continued to walk the same familiar path, her feet tracing a circular outline that resembled the bars that once confined her, even though they were now miles away. Ina's story is a poignant reminder of how our minds can keep us trapped long after the physical barriers are removed. Like Ina, we can become so accustomed to our limitations, our fears, and our doubts that even when the cage is opened, we continue to walk the same mental pathways. But we are not bears in cages.
