The Los Angeles wildfires are devastating. Recovery will take time and money. Resources (materials, labor, financing) will be stressed. Now is not the time to impose tariffs on our neighboring countries of Canada and Mexico, who have offered their firefighters and equipment to fight the fires. Their labor and materials will also be needed in rebuilding. At cnn.com/impact you can find organizations to which to donate to help address fire-fighting and recovery needs.

Access to recovery programs reduces addiction-related harm by 40%. Yet, many communities lack the resources to provide these services. We’re advocating to state agencies and elected officials to close funding gaps and expand access. Recovery shouldn’t depend on where you live or who you are. **The Irony of Our Nation: A Tale of Resilience and Sacrifice** In the bustling streets of our country, amidst the chaos and the crowd, we often overlook the silent struggles of those who fight the hardest battles. This image is a poignant reminder of the resilience and sacrifice that go unnoticed every day. Here, a woman sits under the relentless rain, shielded only by a flimsy plastic sheet, not out of choice but necessity. She is a vegetable vendor, whose daily earnings barely amount to ₹500. For her, a day's loss is not just a number—it’s the difference between feeding her family and going hungry. She is not afraid of the rain or the sickness it might bring. Her only fear is the loss of her hard-earned money, the lifeline for her loved ones. This is the harsh irony of our country, where the relentless spirit of the common man is both inspiring and heartbreaking. As we chase our dreams and ambitions, let us take a moment to acknowledge and support those who, despite their own struggles, ensure that our lives are a little more comfortable. Let this image be a call to action, to extend a helping hand to those who need it the most. For every storm they weather, let's be the shelter they need. Share this post, and let's spread awareness about the everyday heroes who keep our nation running. #Resilience #Sacrifice #EverydayHeroes #SupportLocalVendors #SocialAwareness ---

No one wants to talk about the what ifs … I died, he died, she died. We don’t want to think about it in case it happens. But every day hundreds of South African families experience a death. And being prepared for something that will definitely happen doesn’t mean you are inviting it to happen today. That’s why our latest article explains the steps in winding up an estate. So you and those your business supports can understand and make good plans. And live your best life without worrying. https://lnkd.in/dGRiZh78 #SmartAboutMoney #financialeducation #estates #estateplanning #wills #moneymanagement

Great advice to plan ahead for the inevitable. I know we are not a culture use to talking about end of life planning. Make sure your wishes are honored and make it easier on your loved ones while they grieve.
One thing you can do for your elderly clients – or any age, since accidents happen – is to make sure they have money set aside to pay for burial or cremation after their death. It’s a final gift of compassion they can leave for their loved ones. #financialadvising #wealthmanagement https://lnkd.in/gvrWrrqx

Today, Tuesday 9/10, is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. Did you know that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is 1 death by suicide every 11 minutes in the United States? You should be as alarmed by that figure as I am… On a more hopeful note, 94% of American adults believe suicide can be prevented. Are you with us? Join me and my fellow Volunteer Advocates at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) by joining the fight to #stopsuicide! One easy way to make a difference is to urge your elected officials to support the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act and support the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. AFSP makes it easy to take action. Visit https://lnkd.in/g8nmfWdu to not only learn more about each campaign, but also to send a templated email to your federal and state public officials asking them to distribute some of their 2025 funding to these lifesaving initiatives. Not sure who those are? No problem – AFSP auto-populates those officials once you enter your city and state, making it a simple and quick process! Many of you who have connected with me over the years are familiar with my efforts to advocate for mental health and suicide prevention resources, education, and legislation. Although I am not holding my own fundraiser for AFSP this year, I encourage those who have supported me in the past to please still consider donating. AFSP is one of the few nonprofits that keeps administrative and fundraising costs to 20%, well below the industry standard of 35%. This means you can contribute confidently knowing that more of every dollar is going toward programs and research dedicated to saving lives. Thank you for reading, joining me in bringing hope to those affected by suicide, and taking action against this leading cause of death.

In 2022, 42,514 people died in traffic violence on America’s road and streets. This annual scale of loss – as if from a perpetual war – somehow has not led to the kind of change we need. From our failure to reverse this terrible trend, many conclude that Americans accept the death toll as normal, as inevitable, or as the cost of doing business. But 42 years ago Maya Lin taught us otherwise. It’s not numbers that move us, but names – each one with a story. Her Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, did not end American wars. For the next two decades, however, there was a new degree of caution in US military ventures, and no US war since has matched the scale of the Vietnam War. On September 20, 1972, Vic Langenhoff used his job as a newspaper columnist in the Netherlands to put his daughter's name to the steeply rising death toll on Dutch roads and streets, and to tell her story to the whole country. She was Simone Langenhoff, age 6. Simone’s name and story helped to launch a movement that sharply curtailed deaths in traffic. In 1972 traffic violence killed 3,267 people in the Netherlands. In 2023 the death toll was 684. What Maya Lin did for veterans of the Vietnam War, and what Vic Langenhoff did for the victims of traffic violence in the Netherlands, Families for Safe Streets is now doing for victims and survivors of traffic violence in America – people whose losses too often have been reduced to nameless numbers. If you have no name and story to add to their online Community Story Map, visit it anyway. You will be moved. If you have a name to enter, I hope you will do so, as I have done. You can add names, pictures and stories. And it is stories, not statistics, that inspire change. https://lnkd.in/e6W7Uqcu
