I talked with Typeform's Chief People Officer, Laura Daniels, about Talent Density.
Here are the top 4 learnings I got:
✅ Talent density means a high concentration of skills and capabilities within an organization, and the best way to reach this is to focus on 2 things:
1) Acquiring the best possible talents from the market
2) Developing existing employees' skills
✅ Measurement of talent density should be made simply. One example of how Typeform does this is by asking the hiring manager if they would rehire the person. You can do this with different time intervals like three, six, and twelve months
✅ Align Talent Density with your business strategy - understand your company's business goals. Then, your TA strategy should be going towards reaching these objectives.
✅ There are no quick wins in talent density. Focus on the long-term games.
And a ton of other things around building high-performing teams.

🎙️ New Episode: "Stage, Not Name: Choosing Your Company Wisely" 🎙️
When considering your next role, what's your first question about potential employers? Brand name? Culture? AI focus? Work-from-home policy?
These matter, but they shouldn't be first. Start with company stage, then narrow down. There are four stages:
- Drunken walk: Searching for product-market fit
- Post-market fit: Stabilizing product, retaining initial customers
- Hypergrowth: Scaling rapidly, expanding product line
- Market leader: Dominant product, fighting innovator's dilemma
Product management differs radically at each stage. For example, early-stage needs rapid experimentation; later stages require processes to protect what works. A PM might thrive in one phase but struggle in another.
In my latest episode, I detail how product management shifts at each inflection point:

And I describe how to match your strengths to the right stage of company, ensuring you're intentional about your choice, even if it means shifting from your current stage.
This topic, first covered in a popular Substack article years ago (https://lnkd.in/ghaFiqd), inspired my Skip writing and podcasting. Now updated for today's climate, it reinforces prioritizing company stage in your career decisions.
