My colleague Ian Fogg's latest CCS Insight blog post explores how the UAE, and specifically Emirati operator du, is pushing the boundaries of 5G. With ambitious plans for 5G-Advanced deployment and a focus on delivering exceptional user experiences, du is setting a benchmark for operators. du suggests it is driving into "experience monetisation," a shift from traditional data pricing to tiered services that prioritise user experience. This includes offering various speed tiers and optimised live-streaming as key elements of the service. Thanks to it’s near-nationwide 5G coverage, du is making these advanced capabilities accessible to almost everyone in the UAE. To ensure top network performance, du is implementing 5G carrier aggregation and mmWave. It is also exploring the potential of RedCap and 5G-Advanced to power a wide range of applications, from the Internet of Things to extended reality. At it’s 5G-Advanced Innovation Centre, du is demonstrating the development of new 5G applications like holographic communication.  It is also committed to sustainability, using AI to optimise network performance and reduce energy consumption.
