It’s clear that the concept of beauty is evolving, with qualities like personality, confidence, and authenticity becoming increasingly valued. Brands more and more celebrate imperfection and individuality. However, AGEISM in media and the beauty industry remains a significant challenge. Currently, only 15% of images from major brands feature adults over 50, even though they represent 46% of the U.S. adult population. Additionally, from 2004 to 2018, just 6.6% of characters in primetime TV shows were aged 65 and older. We try so hard to make sure everyone else is okay that we can forget ourselves. 🫶Often we are so far on the list, if we are on the list at all. I am inviting you to know that your needs are important. 🫶Your Voice matters YOU matter. 🫶When was the last time you thought about your needs? Not work, family, friends. Your needs. What is it you actually WANT in life? 🫶Starting to put yourself and your needs first is not selfish. But who you know is largely dependent on who you are and what you do, and the people you know can't do anything for you if you are not doing good work. ↪"Connections don't mean shit." Don't get me wrong. "I've never had any connections that weren't a natural outgrowth of doing things I was doing anyway." ↪Albino laments how many people waste time and energy trying to make connections instead of getting good at what they do, when "being good at things is the only thing that earns you clout or connections." ↔Make stuff you love and talk about stuff you love and you'll attract people who love that kind of stuff. Yesterday was International Men’s Day, and out of 4056 contacts in my phone, only one person acknowledged it. No WhatsApp statuses, no wishes—it’s as if men are seen as beings made of wood, expected to endure without feelings or acknowledgment. This isn’t just about a day; it’s a reflection of the societal mindset where men are often expected to shoulder burdens silently, without appreciation or emotional support. Let’s break this stereotype. Men, too, have emotions, struggles, and vulnerabilities that deserve recognition. A simple wish, a kind word, or acknowledgment can go a long way in showing that we see and value them not just for their strength, but for their humanity. Let’s start valuing everyone equally, beyond gendered expectations.
