21st-century urban planner, finding proper planning solutions to modern urban problems facing the Caribbean region and the world
Smart Cities: The Way Forward In video entitled 'Transforming Cities with Technology' (https://lnkd.in/eQb3f6vB) by the Economist, it highlighted the approach of integrating the use of technology to enable better city planning. Technology can be used to anticipate problems and help contribute to finding meaningful solutions to urban problems that will improve the lives of city dwellers The smart city approach to city planning involves: 1. Upgrading and incorporating technology in infrastructure networks across cities. Which will require greater connectivity and synchronization of infrastructure systems 2. Extensive digitization and management of information about the city. 3. Responsiveness of systems to retrieve and disseminate information in the city. The ability to retrieve up-to-date data frequently helps in analysis, problem-solving and the decision-making process. The dissemination can help to inform and further engage city dwellers on issues affecting them daily. One of the situations that was examined was the transportation system in Seoul, South Korea and how technology has enabled efficiency in public transit and traffic management. Let me know what are your views on this.

Bogota could greatly benefit from adopting open-source technology to enhance its sustainability efforts. By integrating platforms like FIWARE, the city could promote data sharing across sectors such as transportation, energy, and waste management. This would enable more efficient use of resources, reduce environmental impact, and foster collaboration between public and private stakeholders. Moreover, with Bogota's rapid urban growth, open-source tech can facilitate smart city solutions tailored to local needs, promoting a greener, more livable urban environment. Bogota could leverage open-source technologies to address sustainability challenges through real-world examples like: 1. **Smart Mobility Solutions**: By implementing open-source platforms, Bogota can create integrated transportation systems that reduce traffic and emissions. A similar approach was adopted in **Barcelona**, where FIWARE-powered solutions enabled real-time traffic management. 2. **Waste Management**: The city could use sensors and open-source data analytics, as done in **Helsinki**, to optimize waste collection routes and reduce environmental impact. 3. **Energy Efficiency**: Open-source energy grids, such as those in **Amsterdam**, enable efficient monitoring and reduction of energy consumption through smart metering systems. These examples highlight how Bogota could apply open-source frameworks to enhance sustainability, cut costs, and improve urban living. #BogotaSmartCity #OpenSourceSolutions #SustainableBogota #TechForGood #UrbanInnovation #BogotaSostenible #SmartCities #OpenSource #EcoInnovation #UrbanDevelopment #Sustainability
