🌙 A Dream Fueled by Purpose 🌙 This past summer, three researchers (Marta Corral Pujol, Joan Verdaguer Autonell and Jordi Barquinero) and one entrepreneurial profile (Olga Rué Clarós) came together for the first time. In September, at the first team-building session at The Collider driven by Consuelo Rebolledo, a question sparked our journey: "If your project were a real person..." THAT'S WHEN NEMATA WAS BORN. Nemata wasn’t a real person, but she became the embodiment of our shared purpose. Nemata lost her parents to cancer. Fueled by this loss, she dreamt of a world where no child loses a parent to this terrible disease. She envisioned herself as a brilliant scientist, wielding pipettes that save lives. NEMATA'S STORY IS OUR STORY. Her dream, our shared dream, is to make cancer "just a word, not a death sentence." So, we started to work together, becoming a real team, collaborating and refining our vision. The Collider program culminated in the birth of Nema-Health, a spin-off company named after the inspiring persona that emerged from that very first session. And this name serves as a constant reminder of our fight. At Nema Health, we're driven by the power of science and a shared passion. We launched the Health Equity Innovation Fund in 2019 to support organizations with transformative ideas to advance the healthcare system and eliminate deep-rooted inequities. Since then, 77% of Innovation Fund grantees have reported increased commitment to health equity work at their institutions. Moonshots are not about small efforts or incremental change. Moonshots are the strategic pursuit of audacious goals through focus, resource prioritization, and #collaboration among the greatest minds and all key change agents. I joined Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) to learn more about the integration of technology and health literacy to find more ways to support the #adultliteracy providers in the Greater Houston Area and their services to the learners. In March of this year, I was diagnosed with #breastcancer, and suddenly what was a resource for adult literacy became personal. The "reignited" CancerX Moonshot is "a public-private partnership (PPP) to act as a national accelerator to boost innovation in the fight against cancer," which includes the #financial burden of cancer treatment. What are projects like CancerX Moonshot relevant to #AdultEducation? While AEL will always have at its core the fundamentals like #reading, #writing, #numeracy, #oralcommunication, and #criticalthinking, the optimization of the field is the infusion of our core with areas that reflect the integration of #digitalliteracy, #financialliteracy, #environmentalliteracy, and #healthliteracy going on in every aspect of our lives today so that those we serve will truly have the knowledge and tools needed to thrive.
