🌍What's New in Fashion and Circular Economy...🌿 The fashion industry has always thrived on new trends, but it's high time we rethink our approach to production. Did you know every second a lorry load of clothes is burnt or buried in landfill? The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is paving the way for a circular fashion industry, aiming to use products more, make them to be remade and from recycled or renewable inputs. The Fashion ReModel, launched by the Foundation, focuses on the life cycle of garments, steering the industry away from the take-make-waste model. With global brands like Arc'teryx and Primark joining the initiative, the movement towards repair, rental, resale, and remaking is gaining momentum. This reshaping not only diversifies revenue streams but strengthens customer relationships and fosters resilient and sustainable business models. The Jeans Redesign project is a testament to what can be achieved. Brands like Weekday have shown that following circular guidelines significantly improves the durability and sustainability of jeans. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation's vision of a robust circular fashion industry is set to bring considerable financial and environmental benefits, possibly contributing USD 700 billion to the global fashion market by 2030. 🛠️🔄✨ #CircularEconomy #SustainableFashion #FashionIndustry

Extremely pleased to be supporting and endorsing this project from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation announced yesterday at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen. The Fashion ReModel invites participating brands to scale up circular business models such as rental, resale, repair and recycling, while curbing the production and consumption of new materials. The hope is to “decouple revenue from the production of new garments, advancing the long-term journey to make a circular economy for fashion a reality”. In other words, and as Bella Webb writes for Vogue Business: How can brands make money without making new clothes? As I say in my endorsement on the EMF website: “There is no two ways about it, for true systems change, the fashion sector has to start seeing value creation decoupled from new production. Action on circular business models is imperative for this, which is why this programme is so important - helping to unlock barriers for the industry to drive measurable revenue increases against a set of ambitions to do so.” The project’s first eight participants include Arc'teryx, H&M Group brands ARKET, COS and Weekday, Primark, Reformation and Zalando. The project further explains: “The fashion industry is rooted in reinvention, with the power to shape desire, trends and culture. By harnessing this innovative and creative potential, the industry can make circular business models the norm. This is the next step towards a more resilient fashion industry – one where businesses create diverse income streams and foster new connections with customers, and where policymakers support the enabling conditions for circular business models to thrive.” Read the deep dive from Vogue Business here: https://lnkd.in/eAD7xUr2 And otherwise check out the EMF site detailing more here: https://lnkd.in/eBMRiJF9 #sustainablefashion #circularity #circulareconomy #decoupling

Cicular Fashion... seems another "buzz word", result of one of the lastest fashion trends. But it is so much more! I think it is amazing to see fashion brands, as mentioned below, participating in circular initiatives, thinking about methods to create value from waste, recycle, etc... However, if still overproduction of goods is the problem at the start, is it not all wasted energy and effort? I am fascinated by the idea that what someone's sees as waste can actually have value for so many others. But, while researching for the meaning of cicular fashion and the structure of a circular business models, I couldn't help myself from asking this: Who is responsible for it? You know...who is responsible of making circulat fashion really effective? Every fashion professional will say that consumer dictate markets and product demand. However, consumers believe they only buy what is put on the shelves. So where does the responsibility for the improvement of circular fashion lie? Is it consumers demand? Is it fashion companies' offering? Some might even ask, would governments' policies regarding industry overproduction and textile waste disposal be essential for the implementation of circular fashion? Food for thoughts... #fashion #circularfashion #circulareconomy #sustainability #research #university

We've been seeing more reports recently that highlight the fashion industry's struggle to fulfill its circularity and sustainability commitments. High-profile cases like H&M, with its ambitious (but unmet) environmental goals, really underscore the wider industry's predicament. With this context, it’s clear that a fundamental shift is necessary. Brands like #GabriellaRossetti are leading by example, demonstrating that incorporating sustainability from the outset is not just viable but essential. Gabriella Rossetti's on-demand manufacturing model in New York City showcases how aligning production with demand can significantly mitigate waste, ultimately creating a greener fashion ecosystem. This and other innovative approaches upend the traditional fashion production model and pave the way for transformative industry-wide change. By prioritizing sustainable and scalable models, the fashion industry can move closer to achieving sustainability aspirations. The contrast between Gabriella Rossetti's proactive measures and the stumbles faced by giants like H&M highlights the urgent need for solutions that reconcile growth with environmental stewardship. Embracing models designed for economy, scalability, and sustainability from the start is a path to success. In doing so, the fashion industry can not only meet its environmental commitments but also lead by example in the global push towards a more sustainable future. Let's commit to this change, encouraging and supporting brands that are redefining fashion with sustainability at their core. We'd love to hear in comments from brands large and small about your experiences with weaving sustainability initiatives into your companies. How do we empower other brands and retailers while making progress on our own journey towards a more sustainable business? The Fashion ReModel is one of the answers. We recently joined the project, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, to share knowledge with other major players in the fashion industry about circular business models and how to scale them. "For years, circularity has been one of the pillars of our environmental sustainability strategy, and one of the most important lessons we have learned on our journey is that no one can do it alone. It takes an ecosystem of brands, infrastructure, legislation, and investments to drive an industry-wide transformation,” shares Pascal Brun, Zalando’s VP of Sustainability and D&I. Is this a move away from fast fashion? 👀 H&M is making big moves towards a more circular business model, with initiatives like introducing second-hand clothes and revamping stores across Europe. ♻️ This suggests that major brands are feeling the pressure to embrace sustainable practices. This move could signal the beginning of the end for the fast fashion era. As consumers become increasingly aware of the environmental and social impacts of disposable fashion, brands are feeling the heat to offer more sustainable alternatives. When asked about circularity initiatives at H&M, Head of Circular Business Models, Linn af Klint had this to say : ''Alongside adding Pre-loved to physical concept stores, we also work on the digital offer, expanding this to 17 markets with an H&M Pre-loved branded page at Sellpy.com and working with ThredUp in the US for their digital offer. Another exciting thing is our rental offer; last Christmas, we started offering unique rental items from our Designer Collections, and we will continue with unique drops during fall. We have many more exciting things to come this autumn, so stay tuned'' What do you think about this shift? Is it a genuine move towards sustainability? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/davzGCPB
