Did you know that while there are more women serving as US college presidents today than ever before. But at only 33% of sitting college presidents, they are outnumbered two-to-one in the presidency. Meanwhile women of color represent only 1:10 of college presidents. Meanwhile female students enrolled at US institutions outnumber their male peers by almost 2:1, though fields with clear pathways to high paying STEM careers continue to under enroll women and other historically underserved populations. These disparities highlight a continued need to examine educational and professional pathways to the college presidency and other leadership roles so that change is possible: change that represents equity, parity, and excellence through diversity takes us all. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gxJapiAt and look in particular for the 2023 ACE report on the college presidency. There’s work to be done, yes, but also clear evidence on how we can make equity and parity a part of our higher education landscape.

STEM PUSH thinks about STEM through the lens of racial equity. Equity is the approach with which the Network reviews all work, processes, learning and research. Book studies help STEM PUSH leaders examine how to make pre-college STEM programs more culturally sustaining for Black, Indigenous and Latina/o/e students. This is brilliant. To all #scientists, YOU have so much to give to others. How can you mentor and coach those considering a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing? Helping others to be the best they can be is immensely rewarding and is a positive way of creating a hopeful, innovative and impactful future.
We’re proud to announce a new 10-year UK STEM equity programme to inspire and invest in the next generation of STEM talent from under-represented groups. Despite the breathtaking pace and promise of this age of science and technology, only human talent can realise the impact these advances make possible. A highly talented team with a wide range of skills and backgrounds is crucial to our ability to discover and develop ground-breaking medicines and vaccines. That’s why we want to break down barriers into STEM careers to benefit the wider sector. This #NationalMentoringDay we’re expanding STEM mentoring for 11–25-year-olds. Working in partnership with Stemettes, STEM Learning UK, Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK), Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust, and Spark! we’ll inspire thousands of young people to get involved in science, technology, engineering and maths. They are the future innovators who will help us get ahead of some of the world's biggest challenges. Why not tag someone who has inspired you in your STEM career. Did you know that STEM occupations are expected to increase by 10.8% between 2021-2031⁉️ 📈According to a study by McKinsey, there will be a growing demand for STEM jobs in the coming years, which will significantly impact the economy. It is estimated that this could reach $4 trillion worldwide by 2025. ⚡️It is essential to integrate STEM more deeply into education and explore its impact on future careers. STEM should be incorporated into students' environments to help them build a brighter future. “It is not that kids do not have the time or capacity to fit in STEM, but rather that time needs to be reshaped to include STEM”, stated Rayan Barone in his blog. Where are the African female undergraduates studying a STEM course here? You see yourself becoming a well-sought researcher, a technical scientist, an engineer with high repute, or a Mathematics professor? This is not an exhaustive list, but yeah, if you are aspiring to these career paths and need an organization that would invest in your growth, then read this post to the end. I'll tell you this for free: WAAW Foundation is a great place to be, and they are committed to increasing the pipeline of African females entering the STEM field. Here's my story. In 2016, I applied for the WAAW foundation scholarship as a sophomore. I didn't get it. In 2017, I re-applied and gave it my best shot. On Christmas Eve that same year, I got my official scholarship award letter. Guess how that made my yuletide? 😍❤️ You too can have this experience if you invest in the application like I did. Why should you apply for the WAAW foundation scholarship? 🌠 Gives you an explosive exposure to the impact-driven world and what is obtainable through science and technology 🌠 Access to a pool of young professionals in the STEM field which creates room for collaboration across borders 🌠 Intensive training focused on helping you navigate the waters of your career path 🌠 A platform to give back to the community through STEM-focused outreaches, which gives you an opportunity to extend your knowledge to younger folks 🌠 A cash prize to cover for your school fees and materials for studies to support you financially I purposely put the actual scholarship value last because it's only a fraction of all that you stand to gain if your application makes it. So gird up yourself. Take this as a #mondaymotivation from me to you. Rush now! Click this link: https://lnkd.in/d5EgRehR to start your application. Deadline is Nov 17th. #winwithwinnie #waawfoundation #stemcareers #collegescholarship #stemcourses #womeninstem

In the pursuit of educational equity, STEM fields still suffer from a lack of diversity, particularly among Black, Hispanic, and economically disadvantaged students. In my new article for Life Science Leader, I wrote about how Corporate America must take the lead in addressing this challenge to secure our economic competitiveness in a technology-driven era. The recent Supreme Court decision limiting the use of race in educational opportunities underscores the urgency of the matter. The COVID pandemic has exacerbated disparities, hitting minority and low-income students the hardest. But corporate institutions can and must champion transformative efforts to break the chains of inequity and promote STEM education from early childhood to higher education. A robust STEM educational pipeline not only fosters academic success but supports the development of a more innovative and resilient workforce and a stronger society. Corporate America can make a difference through strategic collaborations, philanthropic giving, diverse hiring practices, and offering mentorship opportunities and internships. Together, we can empower underrepresented students and shape a brighter future for all. Thank you Dan Schell and Life Science Leader for sharing this article - an important topic we must continue to keep top of mind. #STEMExcellence #DiversityInSTEM #InclusiveEducation #CorporateResponsibility
