I started drawing again after 16 years, and here's what happened: In 2003, I started my journey in the creative world, coming up with ideas for ads and TV spots at McCann. I kept going with exciting projects at GGH MullenLowe. But as I took on different jobs in Saigon and Shanghai, I ended up mostly managing creative teams. When I began running my own agency in 2010, I found myself doing mainly the conceptual part, less and less involved in the creative doing. Despite this, I've always loved getting my hands dirty with actual creative work. So, I decided to rediscover the joy of creating instead of just overseeing. And that's where my story starts. In January 2023, I started drawing regularly again. Instead of keeping my artwork hidden away, I decided to pin it all on the wall. Doing so, I discovered three beautiful things I learned for the future: 🔄 Continuity: Seeing my artwork daily has fueled my desire to continue exploring. It's become a matter of when, not if, I'll create next. 🔥 Passion: Rediscovering my love for drawing has reignited a passion within me. I don't just create; I eagerly share my work, showcasing at least 120 pieces to visitors, friends and family. 🌟 Adaptability: If this approach works for illustration, why not apply it to other creative endeavors? From photography to brand design, I'm eager to explore new avenues and excited to share in 12 months again. I invite you to join me on this journey of rediscovery. During a call today, a few team members and I were discussing unique ways companies can use photography in their content strategy - specifically around employee retention. We noticed a particular client of ours doesn't utilize their LinkedIn company page to its full potential. But what we did notice was that they did post job openings - make sense! We came up with an idea of being able to showcase their existing employees through photography while telling stories around those employees to help people outside the organization learn who's behind the scenes. Much like the style of "Humans of New York." The strategy will give the company virtually limitless content, but also showcase their employees. This helps those who work for the company feel like they belong and gives them further recognition, while also showing those who are interested in working there what kind of great people they would working with. We all love to learn about industries, processes, job positions and products right? But aren't we more intrigued with the individuals who make it happen? We are. I find it disheartening! Today, while browsing the website of a prominent investment banking company, I was astonished to discover that they prominently featured stock photography on their landing page. How do I know it's stock photography, you might wonder? Because I spotted the same images on a competitor's website! Why would they resort to this?! This company specializes in investing in household name companies, yet they opt for a $5 royalty-free image? It's unmistakably stock photography because I saw the SAME image on another competitors site! In contrast, consider a remarkable San Francisco firm that engaged me to photograph their employees in their own workspace, creating a collection of 30-50 meticulously designed images for use across all their marketing and branding platforms.
