This afternoon I sat in virtually on the "Leveraging Digital Media to Promote Civic Dialogue" session at the Smithsonian National Education Summit. It was inspiring to learn about the Digital Democratic Dialogue Project where classrooms of high school students in different parts of the country join together to learn about each other with the goal of having civic conversations. https://lnkd.in/ei3Mq6WQ The presenters shared that a key to the success of the program is that they build in time up front for students to really get to know each other and talk about personal interests before diving into civic topics. This creates a safer space to open up and share thoughts. The "Dialogue Supports" mentioned in the session sound like ones we can all use in museum education classrooms and everyday life: When talking with someone, try using the "4 C's" for better conversations: Care Connection Community Curiosity Gratitude: What are you thankful your group member shared? Bridge: How did this make you think about similarities or differences between your life and your group member's life? Question: What do you want to ask your group member?

As artists, we often look for inspiration in the world around us. Whether it's the beauty of nature, the complexity of human emotions, or the vibrant colors of a bustling city, inspiration can strike at any moment. But how do we keep that creative flow alive and thriving? One key expectation is to embrace curiosity. Stay open to new experiences, whether it's exploring a new medium, visiting an art exhibition, or simply taking a walk in a different neighborhood. Curiosity keeps our minds fresh and receptive to new ideas. Another expectation is to nurture our creativity through regular practice. Just like a muscle, our creativity needs to be exercised regularly. Set aside time each day to create, even if it's just for a few minutes. This consistent practice helps keep the creative juices flowing. Lastly, surround yourself with a supportive community. Whether it's fellow artists, mentors, or art enthusiasts, having a supportive community can provide valuable feedback, encouragement, and inspiration. Share your work, attend workshops, and engage with others in the artistic community to keep your inspiration alive and flourishing. What are your thoughts on staying inspired as an artist?
