This November we are recognizing #HomelessnessAwarenessMonth, by sharing important statistics that reflect the local homelessness crisis here in our own community. In Dutchess County, 1,276 households and 1,622 individuals sought support, facing an average of 240 days of homelessness. This means that for more than half of the a year, individuals and families will grapple with the harsh realities of life without a stable home. These statistics remind us of the urgent need for action. It's not just about raising awareness; it's about working to create real, lasting change. Hudson River Housing works everyday providing shelter, housing services, and affordable housing solutions for housing insecure members of our community. Together, we can help shorten the duration of homelessness and make a lasting impact in the lives of those in need. Join us this Homeless Awareness Month in advocating for change. Let's ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home, not just for a few months, but for a lifetime.

A huge thank you to the City of Poughkeepsie Police! Every week, officers make a special visit to River Haven Shelter to engage with the youth — playing card games, basketball, and sharing meals. This initiative has fostered strong, positive relationships between our local police and the shelter's residents. It is particularly impactful for young people who may have had negative experiences with law enforcement, helping them see officers as supportive allies they can rely on for help.

“I think the best way for women to support other women is to share your experiences and strive to be supportive and positive. You'll be faced with many competing priorities and expectations to change who you are. Get to know yourself and stay true to who you are. That doesn't mean to not grow or evolve but stay grounded in your beliefs, no matter the pressure. You will look back and be grateful you did." — Christa Hines, President & CEO Join us in learning more about the 2024 Women to Know in Dutchess County here: https://lnkd.in/dBvmfht9 #WomensHistoryMonth #DutchessCounty.

Director, Worldwide IBM Z HW Sales Leader | Former Software Developer | Product Management | Veterans Advocate
Many of you know that our local #IBM Veterans community has been working with Liberty Station, a local shelter that provides housing for #Veterans in need. However, we know that the need is much broader than that. We recently met with Christa Hines, the Executive Director of Hudson River Housing and her leadership team. Although we discussed how to increase our partnership for Veterans, they also shared the need for support for women and the growing Hispanic/Latino community. I’ll be reaching out to the leaders of our local IBM Hispanic/Latino and Women in Technology leaders to see how we can bring more of IBM together to help. My message today is simple. First, while I am very proud to see IBMers join together like this in our local communities, I am amazed at people like the Hudson River Housing staff for whom this is their passion and their career. Second, for those in the Hudson Valley area (NY) who are looking for a way to help, reach out to me and we will get you plugged in. Unexpected Bonus: Thomas Zurhellen shared his book "The Low Road: Walking the Walk for Veterans" about his walk across America to raise awareness about Veteran suicide and homelessness. Thanks!
