📢 Webinar recap - Impact of transformational agreements (TAs) in APAC: Lessons from the East and the West As part of Open Access Week, we hosted an engaging panel discussion yesterday on the impact of TAs, featuring expert insights from Hong Kong, Japan and South Africa. Our panelists provided invaluable lessons on how these agreements are transforming scholarly communications and driving global research collaboration. 💡 Webinar highlights: Regional perspectives: How are libraries leading the shift to open access? In what ways TAs have impacted libraries and access to scholarly research? Fostering collaboration: What kind of support could libraries provide to researchers to ensure their needs are met? What are the opportunities for collaboration between publishers and librarians? Challenges and opportunities: How are different regions addressing barriers to open access? How will TAs shape the future of academic publishing in the next five years and beyond? I love this quote from Flora - "Be open to open." To embrace transparency in research and promote accessibility of data. This encourages researchers to adopt practices that not only enhance the quality of their work but also contribute to a more equitable and innovative scientific community. In celebration of Open Access Week, Wiley has published a blog post that explores how open research fosters collaboration and drives scientific progress. 🌐 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/d5ZAq4uB 🎥 Missed the webinar? Here is my most recent research article, which analyzes the change to the 5.0 revolution: The challenges of public education in Costa Rica. The approach of the study was qualitative, exploratory and descriptive, with the purpose of understanding the causes and effects that contributed to this phenomenon. In-depth interviews were used to identify key factors, together with a bibliometric review. In the findings, it is highlighted that students require a more active, dynamic state support and above all with measurable objectives, since online teaching models the goals of digital transformation. In conclusion, for virtual education to be successful, an agile, flexible and dynamic teaching model is required to achieve the country's goals. Thank you Dr. Edwin Gerardo Acuña Acuña for joining us on this journey. I invite you to read the Revista de Gestão Social e Ambiental in Brazil to see the complete publication. https://lnkd.in/gK4dburf #digitaltransformation #revolution5.0 #digitalstrategy

New: Perspectives on Microfoundations Paper in Journal of World Business I am pleased to share a recent publication in the Journal of World Business, co-authored with great colleagues: Tina Ambos, Ulf Andersson, Randi Lunnan, Pamela Sharkey-Scott and Emre Yildiz. Title: Revealing the promise of microfoundations for international business research: A modular approach. In this article, we address two persistent challenges in applying microfoundations to IB: 1. Uncovering micro-macro-micro relationships in complex, often nested IB phenomena. 2. Applying the multiple theoretical lenses offered by IB to coherently explain relationships. To tackle these challenges, we propose a modular approach to the foundational framework of microfoundations, Coleman's (1990) bathtub. By breaking down the micro-macro-micro relationships of the bathtub into distinct, testable modules, the modular approach enhances theoretical precision, offers clear structures for research design, and provides a pathway for cumulative and rigorous theory building in IB. This approach holds considerable promise for microfoundations research to address the critical business and societal challenges of our time. This publication serves as a foundation for the forthcoming Call for Papers on Microfoundations in International Business in the Journal of World Business. We encourage scholars to answer the Call and contribute to advancing IB research using a microfoundations perspective! 📖 Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eHbWkiDa Or https://lnkd.in/eimB4HCP

6.5 #ideas I’m thinking about after recent #future & #tech sessions: 1. Sortition: Antoine Vergne of Missions Publiques spoke during the Science Summit at #UNGA Digital Governance Series sponsored by the People-Centered Internet (Thank you Mei Lin Fung) about sortition based deliberative governance and his work with his team to engage a #citizens panel for discussions. This reminded me how difficult it can be to interact with randomly selected voices and the (hard) work it takes to find and hear such voices. Beyond the invitation, extending support like childcare, transportation, or even stipends might help a randomly selected citizen to be present for a meeting in order to to be heard. Also, a facilitator who can engender trust in conversation. I had flashbacks to a first job leading a team of pollsters and the #time it took to find a person randomly selected to hear their voice for the study. We believed it mattered. (It does matter.) 2. How we communicate matters as much as what we have to say Yannis Ioannidis, President of the ACM, Professor, University of Athens, reminded that ‘how we communicate’ can matter as much as what we have to say. Great point. If what we have to say goes unheard—then we haven’t made our point. I’m reading Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg. He advises to improve communication by listening for needs (i.e. does this person want to be helped, heard, or hugged right now?) 3. The Law of Requisite Variety Noshir Contractor, Executive Director, Web Science Trust, cited “the principle of requisite variety” saying that we cannot rely on single disciplines, single individuals, government education, or academia, rather, we should underscore the importance of recognizing that today we really have to think about it all. I like this 'in a nutshell' take on the concept I found: “The only way you can control your destiny is to be more flexible than your environment.” 4. Cooperation isn’t broken (it just needs better branding)... That is Yash Ranga, strategic visionist's wise insight. He also reminded we need to “#think about the structures in which systems are made.” I.e., how do we build a cooperative AI system in a competitive culture? 5. The (Re) Imagination Olympics: I left the No Future Without #Culture session wondering, Where are the Olympics for (Re) Imagination being held? (And When?) 6. Provenance: From yesterday's Taming Silicon Valley: A Chat with Gary Marcus and Peter Norvig by Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI): Provenance can help verify the authenticity of a work of art. But now it may also help us verify the authenticity of an AI system. Think: “Where is this information coming from? AI means a new opportunity—a "rebirth," if you will—for each of us to #think critically about the systems we engage with. 6.5. Summit of the Future with Cyndi Coon & Kim Larkin later this week! Is Your Research Relevant? Ahmad Beltigui [Aston University] and Mike Hitt [Texas A&M] explore the increasing pressure on academics to make their research relevant to external stakeholders, alongside the traditional emphasis on rigour. The authors argue that these two aspects should be mutually reinforcing and identify three key strategies to achieve this: 1) Stakeholder Engagement: Deeply involving stakeholders to guide research direction and focus on relevant problems. 2) Agility: Enabling researchers to adapt their skills to emerging topics and respond to dynamic environments. 3) Orchestration: Fostering collaboration and network building to address complex challenges. The Advanced Services Group at Aston University is presented as an example of a research centre that successfully implements these strategies. #research #academia #business https://lnkd.in/euzspzYc
