In October, Google launched support for Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia state IDs in #GoogleWallet. This followed initial support from #AppleWallet, allowing residents in those three states and Maryland to add their state IDs to the two most popular and prevalent digital wallets. Meanwhile, Iowa is working with Samsung to add support for state IDs in #SamsungWallet, with Apple and Google sure to follow. The #digitalID revolution has begun and goes beyond pure convenience, as digital IDs offer improved security and privacy. It's no longer a question of "Do people want this?" but rather "How long until people demand this?"

If you are following Privacy Sandbox, you may have missed a change from late last week - Google quietly updated the IP Protection proposal (which is similar to Apple's iCloud Private Relay) adding in an additional hop, and updating the core requirements to include "Google can't see the origin that the clients interact with" This is a meaningful change, and brings it closer to parity with iCloud Private Relay. Why is this important? IP-based Fingerprinting has taken off in the wake of cookie deprecation, and the only easy, meaningful way (so far!) to completely thwart IP fingerprinting is these expensive proxy / relay solutions. It's great to see Google do this, and I'm surprised there isn't more attention drawn to this change!
