Congratulations Melissa Whatley, Casey Aldrich & Adeline De Angelis on the recent publication of this new article which combines two under-researched #internationaleducation topics: community college and outcomes of virtual exchange! https://lnkd.in/gqkcGC9c. It's nice to know that one does not necessarily need to engage in physical mobility to nurture students' self-efficacy and global mindset. Brava! Linda Stuart, I think you would like this article. Also, Mattia Baiutti & Darla K. Deardorff --I'd be interested in whether your work with secondary school students tracked self-efficacy outcomes, particularly in short-term programs.

We talk a lot about the strengths that international students bring to U.S. employers, and also the barriers that hinder students' ability to utilize those strengths. A recent report by researchers at the University of Oxford shows the same trend, but in students' home countries. International student returnees contribute to growth and innovation in multiple industries, but are restrained by structural and normative blockades that limit their potential impact. Although it seems like a "rock and hard place" situation, this demonstrates the importance of developing those cultural/professional competencies of resilience and adaptability, as well as forming a social network to gather information and create workarounds. https://lnkd.in/eJpFAZW9

Sugar-Coated EDUCATION by the West. There are ways in which Western education systems present information in a way that glosses over certain complexities or biases. It's true that education systems worldwide can sometimes be selective in the way they present history, culture, and current events. Curriculums can be influenced by many factors, including political, social, and cultural contexts. As a result, some perspectives may be emphasized while others are downplayed or omitted. This can lead to a "sugar-coated" version of history or contemporary issues, where the more uncomfortable or controversial aspects are minimized. What are your thoughts on how this could be improved?

One of the publications I am most proud of as an individual is one that considers how #highereducation needs to consider how #TitleIX is communicated to #international students. Considering how important #studyabroad and other elements can be for many campuses, the intersection of Title IX policy and student awareness for reporting and inclusion becomes clear. The Journal of International Students has ensured that this is an open educational resource, so I hope it continues to be a piece of research that invites conversation and enables future study. https://lnkd.in/ewZzcVGe

The UK is fortunate to be home to some of the highest-ranking universities in the world. With intense competition for places, it is vital that young people compete on a level playing field. But lack of work experience, guidance and enrichment activities are holding some young people back. Our new @Speakers for Schools report highlights the double disadvantage state school students experience in securing a place.
