Do you know that they are over 20million out of school in Africa? According to UNESCO's Institute for Statistics (2022), sub-Saharan Africa accounts for more than half of the world's out-of-school children, with an estimated 20.2 million children between the ages of 6 and 11 not attending school. The main reasons for this include: 1. Poverty 2. Conflict 3. Cultural and social barriers 4. Limited access to quality education 5. Child labor 6. Early marriage Here are some ways we can address it . Organizations, governments, and individuals are working to address this issues through: 1. Poverty Reduction: Economic empowerment programs, social protection schemes. 2. Conflict Resolution: Peacebuilding initiatives, addressing root causes of conflict. 3. Cultural Shifts: Challenge harmful traditional practices, promote girls' education. 4. Child Protection: Strengthen child protection systems, prevent child labor and exploitation. #UNESCO #education #school

#Didyouknow that 9 out of 10 African children struggle with basic literacy by age 10? Our Programme Manager, Tonia Uduimoh, joined other panelists and keynote speakers to emphasize Africa’s status as the most affected continent by learning poverty. The discussions stressed the necessity for government commitment, increased education funding, cohesive policies, child-focused learning, and collaborative partnerships. Oando Foundation’s renewed focus on foundational learning under the LEARNOVATE strategy aligns with Africa’s 2063 agenda. We value the opportunity to advocate and mobilize stakeholders for action on this critical issue.

Today is the #InternationalDayOfEducation and it's important to address educational inequalities worldwide. ✏️ 244 million children and adolescents around the world are out of school. 📖 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic math. 👧🏿<40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school. Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. It offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a brighter future. The foundation of more peaceful, just, and sustainable societies is laid through education.

Statistics paint a grim picture of the educational landscape in many parts of the world. According to UNESCO, over 258 million children and youth are out of school, with poverty being the main barrier to access. In sub-Saharan Africa, the region with the highest rates of education exclusion, over one-fifth of children between the ages of 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of 12 and 14. Moreover, nearly 60% of youth between the ages of 15 and 17 are not in school, highlighting a systemic problem that transcends geographical boundaries. The challenge of educational disparity is daunting, but not insurmountable. With the support of the global community we can make significant strides towards ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. #EducationForAll #EndEducationalGap #EmpowerThroughEducation #BuildBrightFutures #L2LifeImpact #SupportOurSchools #GlobalEducation #CommunityEmpowerment #EducationMatters #LearnToLead #ChangeMakers #QualityEducation #EducationIsARight #BridgeTheGap #YouthEmpowerment

This African Child Day allows us to consider every child's basic right to obtain a high-quality education. The theme for this year, "Education for All Children: The Time is Now," encourages us to get moving and redouble our dedication to making sure no kid in Africa falls behind. Our African continent is depriving too many children of their fundamental right to study and develop. Poverty, violence, prejudice, and a lack of infrastructure continue to rob millions of African children of the transformative potential of education. This is intolerable. We should act immediately. Regardless of a child's gender, race, socioeconomic level, or location of birth, we have to put out an enormous effort to remove these obstacles and create a future whereby the doors of education are open to everyone. Education is the great equalizer and driver of both personal and social progress. Investing in our children's education helps us invest in the ultimate cornerstone of our continent's growth. Well-educated children become strong citizens who can drive innovation, create better communities, and help shape a more fair and rich Africa. Let us stand together on this Day of the African Kid in our will to ensure every kid can have a decent education. Governments, civic society, businesses, and communities working together will help to mobilize the resources, policies, and political will required to fulfill this promise. Right now is the present. Let us make education for all a live, breathing reality across our continent so that the children of Africa may flourish and thereby shape our shared destiny. Working together, we can make sure every kid has chances to develop, learn, and realize their best potential.
