The Kolkata doctor would be alive if the 'civic volunteers' at the hospital were women. Hire more women to staff public-facing 24X7 essential services like hospitals, police stations, railways stations, etc. The top positions should also go to women, not just the ground level jobs. Besides the obvious safety angle for women, these jobs also require high levels of empathy and it's a scientific fact that women have more empathy, required in high pressure situations. Women are also more disciplined and no-nonsense and men don't usually take panga with women in public-facing jobs. Women also take ownership of the smallest jobs which in my experience (many) men tend not to. Some men (not all) also tend to be corrupt, in field jobs. If you are in a position where you hire these people, please remember what I said. Share this with friends who do. The purpose of this note is not to tarnish men. A majority of Indian men are respectful of women and see them as equals. Many unfortunately are not, and this needs policy interventions based on behavioral insights, where possible.

I had to resign due to health complications and back to back surgeries prior to my pregnancy in March 2022. During my break, I have continued to upskill myself and continued my learning.
