September Retail Reads 📚 This past month I’ve read two excellent books on the evolving world of retail and design by two brilliant leading experts in the industry. Bethan Alexander (PhD) "Customer Experience in Fashion Retailing: Merging Theory and Practice" is a real deep dive into how customer experience has evolved in the fashion world, and trust me, she leaves no stone unturned! She blends theory, creative agency insights, and real-world case studies from major brands like Zara and Nike. A key takeaway is how crucial it is for fashion retailers to create seamless, engaging experiences across both physical and digital channels. It’s packed with insights for anyone looking to stay ahead in fashion retail! Katelijn Quartier "The Big Book of Retail Design" focuses on the transformative power of store environments and their influence on consumer behavior. Quartier delves into every detail—lighting, layout, sensory design, and more—showing how these factors shape the way people shop. She emphasizes that thoughtful design isn’t just about aesthetics but also about enhancing functionality, leading to more engaging and efficient shopping spaces that drive sales. Both authors brilliantly merge academic theories with real-world retail practice. Alexander brings in consumer psychology and retail management theory, while Quartier integrates design research, making these books an invaluable resource for both scholars and industry professionals. Their combined perspectives offer a balanced understanding of how strategy and design contribute to a holistic retail experience. For anyone involved in fashion retail, design, or even just curious about the retail sector I highly recommend both books. They provide valuable insights into creating immersive, customer-centric environments that are not only visually stunning but also strategically effective in driving business success. Please feel free to give any book recommendations in the comments ✅ #RetailDesign #CustomerExperience #FashionRetail #RetailInnovation #RetailReads

As someone deeply passionate about the world of retail design, I often come across discussions highlighting the many objectives that it should accomplish. From my point of view there are two main goals to fulfil. Retail design should: DRIVE THE BUSINESS - A well defined design can boost sales by 20-25% while fostering customer engagement and impacting overall profitability. ESTABLISH BRAND IDENTITY - Because as Doug Stephens wisely said: ‘The store is the strongest marketing tool’. What are your thoughts? What objectives do you believe retail design should strive to achieve? #retaildesign #designobjectives #brandidentity #drivethebusiness
