FCV impacts women, men, girls, and boys differently, deepening gender gaps in education, health, economic participation, and agency. As conflicts rise, more people live in FCV settings, and these countries now rank lowest on gender equality indicators like maternal mortality, school enrollment, and reproductive health care. The World Bank's "A Development Approach to Advancing Gender Engagement and Addressing Gender Inequalities in FCV situations" identifies effective strategies to design, implement, monitor, and measure interventions tailored to distinct needs. This approach paper shares regional experiences, lessons learned, and best practices, along with an action plan to elevate gender issues to a strategic level. #GenderEquality #GBV #humanitarianaid #humanitarian https://lnkd.in/dw6Zauuh To deep dive in this topic, don’t miss the Gender Based Violence in Humanitarian Action Advanced Training by Humcap planned in November 2024! https://lnkd.in/dNDDEeK6

When societies are built on traditions and social norms of gender inequality and male dominance, male children are often held in a higher regard than female children. This son preference places girls at a disadvantage and perpetuates women’s inferior position in these societies. #womensafehouse #endgbv #endviolence #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #notodomesticviolence #enddomesticviolence #speakout #sonpreference

Today we commemorate the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. Over the last three decades, the global prevalence of FGM has declined. A girl's chances of undergoing FGM are one-third lower today than they were 30 years ago. Maintaining these achievements in the face of humanitarian crises such as disease outbreaks, climate change, armed conflict, and others may result in a reversal of progress toward gender equality and the elimination of FGM by 2030. To promote the elimination of female genital mutilation, coordinated and systematic efforts are required, involving entire communities and focusing on human rights, gender equality, sexual education, and the needs of women and girls affected by its consequences. #endfgm #fgm

In this paper, we investigated gender differences in time-use patterns of children and adolescents and assessed the reallocation of time in response to household adversities, revealing insights into how gender inequality in time use is produced and reinforced. https://lnkd.in/g-v3DgzH Kriti Vikram Srinivas Goli

Promoting Women Leadership in DRR-12: • The international community has recognized and committed to a strong focus on gender equality and women’s rights in disaster risk reduction. • This requires: gender-responsive governance and policy-making, gender-responsive programming, monitoring and evaluation, integration of gender into vulnerability, risk and capacity assessments, collection and use of sex- and age-disaggregated information and data, facilitating and leveraging the actual and potential contributions and leadership of women in resilience building, promoting their participation, leadership and voice in disaster risk reduction processes. • In India, the vulnerability of women during disaster was recognized as well as the limited participation of women in DRR was noticed. #womenempowerment #disastermanagement #pmoindia #idmrc #drr

It's the #InternationalDayOfZeroToleranceFor #FemaleGenitalMutilation (FGM) #DidYouKnow that we have over 200 million girls and women alive today who are survivors of #FGM. 1 in 4 survivors underwent #FGM by health worker. Daughters of #FGM survivors are at significant higher risk to undergo #FGM compared to daughters of women who have not undergone #FGM and the financial cost of healthcare for #FGM survivors is USD 1.4 billion every year. But we appreciate that girls are today one- third less likely to undergo #FGM than 30 years ago. However progress needs to be at least 10 times faster to meet the global target of #FGM elimination by 2030. In our respective roles we need to collaborate together to promote elimination of #FGM by using human rights- based approach, investing in coordinated and systematic efforts, engaging the whole communities, focus on gender equality and sexual education and taking into account needs of women and girls who suffer from its consequences. #HerVoice #HerFuture #ENDFGM

More action is needed to criminalise all forms of modern slavery - especially those affecting women and girls. International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on how gender inequality and discrimination remain deeply embedded in the fabric of our lives and society. We need to continue highlighting this message globally. #IWD #modernslavery #humanrights
