The Correspondence of Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore is excited to join LinkedIn! Follow us to learn about the twelfth and thirteenth presidents, the United States before the Civil War, and our efforts to publish historical letters by diverse Americans. For more info, check out our website and blog.
Between 1844 and 1853, Taylor led troops into the Republic of Texas and in the Mexican-American War, Fillmore helped lead the New York government and the University of Buffalo, and both served as the last two presidents from the Whig Party. They wrote and received letters on topics ranging from which books children should read to whether new immigrants should vote to what rights Black and Indigenous Americans should have to how divided the nation had become. We are publishing the letters, in print and online, so that readers can learn history from the words of those who lived through it.
