Can you find jobs by attending events/conferences? Absolutely, even virtual ones, if you do it right. By now (mid-April) you are either celebrating a promotion and year-end bonus or wondering why you didn’t get a good raise this year. Have you considered conferences and other events as a way to land offers?! You should. I’ve hired someone who came to an event where I was speaking so I’m telling you it’s absolutely possible. 🍀While the list of attendees are hidden, speaker list is always public. Do your research to see if there are speakers representing companies you’d like to work at or learn more about. 🍀 Look up the speakers’ LinkedIn profile and see if any of them are currently hiring! Send them a personalized invite to connect. 🍀 Attend their talk at the conference/event. Have a goal to learn 3-5 new things and keep your notes for a follow up. Don’t: ❌ Tell then you’d come to their talk and then NOT show up. People remember your say/do, trust me. ❌ Ask for a referal or interview right away. They don’t know you yet and don’t owe you anything. ❌ Forget to prepare a brief 30-second elevator pitch if they ask you what you do. Use storytelling to make yourself more memorable. Good luck!! Meet Your Recruiter is back for another round! 🌟 To kick off the week, our prompt today is on 'inspiration,' and a few things came to mind for me... This year, I've made a conscious effort to push beyond my comfort zone, particularly in networking and public speaking. Whether it's appearing as a guest on webinars or creating video content, I've been stepping up and telling myself to 'just do it.' 🙌 It took a while to get to this point, but I have a few people to thank who have inspired me along the way! My Director Eloise Shelton, whose belief in me has been a constant source of inspiration, along with her guidance and support in everything that I do. I'm also extremely grateful to Angela Cripps and Katharine Robinson from Recruiting Gym - home of recruitment training for extending an invitation to participate in one of their live webinars, which I've now contributed to twice! Their support and encouragement have been invaluable in helping me grow professionally. More recently, I was inspired by Kaz Saunders, a fellow networker of The Business Room Networking, who delivered a live presentation to our group about her business, Elite Home Support EHS. Like many of us, both Kaz and I find public speaking extremely daunting. However, witnessing her confidence, success and passion about what she does in front of our networking group was truly inspiring and it has given me some additional courage as I prepare for my own presentation at our next monthly meeting.
