It's now nearly 2 years ago since the industry-wide collaborative initiative, from Morgan Sindall Construction, SCAPE, HLM Architects, Cundall, Lungfish Architects and Innovaré Offsite Limited worked together to innovate a new process for designing and delivering construction projects, where reducing whole life carbon is the primary objective. By applying lessons learned (both good & bad) from past projects, challenging existing assumptions and utilising vertical collaboration across the whole supply chain, the Architects’ Journal award winning initiative drove exciting learnings to share. The 18-month journey, which began on the cusp of the first UK lockdown not only found new ways to approach carbon reduction in the construction design and delivery processes, but also new ways of working collaboratively as a group. Online brainstorming and research sessions became the norm, which further contributed to the success of the project for the team – finding new ways of working in more ways than one! Now, 2 years on, and a time of unprecedented and increased change and with the introduction of the Building Safety Act where the 'Golden Thread' it has never been as important to share our collective experiences to deliver fully complaint, sustainable, low embodied and operational carbon structural solutions. #collaborativedesign #sustainability #mmc #offsiteconstruction #sharedlearning
