I was bad at networking. ❌ In 2021, I was laid off from my full-time job and wanted to pivot out of sales. I sent 10+ LinkedIn connection requests daily and received 0 responses. That’s when I changed my strategy: 1. Used “Add a note” with my invitation 2. Included a specific note (e.g. complimented on experience or related to the person) 3. Once connected, I followed up by asking for advice to pivot to Talent Acquisition / HR In 2022, I had 28+ informational interviews ☕ with this new strategy. This led to referrals and interviews at my target companies. "Paul I'm not getting any responses from the roles I have applied for, and can't understand why, can you help me?!" For all candidates that need to hear this... Applying for roles is only PART of the job hunting/searching strategy! 🙂 For all candidates you should be thinking about other ways that you can unofficially apply for roles. Personally, when I was job hunting last year and my strategy was as follows... Step 1 - Find suitable role - something that interested and excited me. Step 2 - Apply for role. Step 3 - Connect with Recruiters in Company and let them know my interested in said role and company. Step 4 - Connect and Follow Company, and also declare interest in joining company. (This can be done in the 'About' section on the company page 😉 ) Step 5 - Engage on BOTH recruiters and Company LinkedIn posts. (This will help increase your visibility in the company network) Step 6 - Leverage LinkedIn network to build contacts in Company. (If a contact has a 1st connection with someone in the company, ask for an introduction - this shows drive and initiative) Step 7 - Arrange a call with a member of the Recruitment or Talent Acquisition team - it doesn't have to be for a live role. (Networking is essential in building relationships) Step 8 - Follow up with Recruiter or Company for updates or feedback on Application. (If you need to Message, InMail or Email them weekly, do some - communication and feedback is essential in recruitment process) Step 9 - Rinse and Repeat for all applications and Companies of interest. Note - this is my own strategy, and not something that will work for everyone, or something that everyone will want to follow themselves!)
