For the last 12 months I’ve ‘job hunt’ coached well over 100 tech leaders. People who were laid off from senior positions when the post Covid bubble burst. I’ve listened to them, supported them, rebranded them and encouraged them to adopt a much more forward thinking job hunting strategy! Lots have secured jobs, but if you’re someone I’ve mentored and still ‘on the market’ I have some great news for you today! The market is definitely moving again….yeah I know I’ve said it before, maybe wishful thinking, but it’s bouncing back, 100% Look, you may not be able to go back in exactly where you left off, but if you’re flexible, which I know you are, you’ll see a lot more opportunities in the coming weeks. Listen, I know I sound like a worn out record….but don’t just apply or hit quick apply….that's not enough. Hunt down your future boss, network and connect with your future coworkers. Hiring managers will be getting hundreds of applications. Be creative, be professional, be proactive! Top tip - if your future boss accepts your connection, send them a one page doc explaining exactly why you feel you’re a fit for the role, and if you want to go the extra extra mile design it using Canva Good luck! 🤞🏻 Oh and if I’ve helped and supported you this last 12 months, don’t forget me when you’re hiring 🤘🏻 #goodnewsfriday

CONSPIRACY THEORY It feels like our #Community is conspiring to provide me with great examples of how #TheGAME works so that we can share them. Someone out there needs to get the message!….. #481a / Architect #Location / Boston #BOOM #LinkedInMessage: 11/15/24 ———————————————————- I've accepted an offer to work at _______ in Boston. They were my "dream company" when I studied for my Masters. I forgot all about them when I started working because I was super happy with the small firm environment. But suddenly I received an unexpected message in LinkedIn from a person I know from some events, she thought I was a good fit based on "projects I've shared on LinkedIn and how valuable I was in the industry even though I'm just starting." A little background, I applied online to the firm in; August 2020 January 2023 March 2023 September 2023 January 2024 February 2024 No response to any of those applications. The current offer came from someone on their team asking me through LinkedIn. I thought you would like to know that the opportunity came to me without me looking for it. This community is only positive and brings opportunities even when we are not looking. ————————————————————- #ANALYSIS.. SIX ONLINE APPLICATIONS TO THE FIRM……… No Acknowledgement No Response No Job Interview BUT…….. By Attending Events By Being Visible on LinkedIn She Starts her Dream Job after Thanksgiving! Crazy that so many people continue to rely solely on submitting their CV’s/Portfolio’s into HR Portals….. #LOVEthisGAME #STOPbeingAFRAID #GETinTheGAME #ArchitecturalPhotography *Interconnected .

Job hunting can be very stressful and funny at the same time, especially when you are even lucky to get back a response from the recruiter. So due to how the country’s economy is, I decided to job hunt for a side job just to meet up. After several attempts at making a short video about myself for this role. Feeling that I have already gotten this job ( foreign role that would have paid me over 1k dollars in a month). This was the feedback(in the comment section) . Who even told them am a senior designer? 😔😔😔 me that is still a newbie in this tech. God 😭 I really needed this job. Who else have gotten such feedback before? Have you ever been over qualified for a role you applied for? Kindly share your thoughts. #jobhunting #jobsearching #productdesign #seniorproductdesigner #rejection

Ask Jennifer / Career Question of the Day: Q: Hi Jennifer. Thanks for all of your helpful advice. I don’t think some people understand how bad this job market is. 500? 1000 applicantions in a year and I’ve only had 5 interviews and not even a second interview. I just collect rejection emails at this point. It doesn’t even make sense to try anymore. A: I know. It’s very bad for a lot of people especially folks in Los Angeles in the media and entertainment space. I’ve even met attorneys from Meta who have lost their job. My best career advice is to start your own business. Maybe it’s what you did for a company previously. Maybe it’s something completely different! My friend is a dental hygienist but knows all about fitness. I told her to coach some people either in person or by Zoom. Think of other creative ideas and ways that you can make money. People have gone back to school or become hairdressers or estheticians. One said she made $20k a month. Think of what you spend money on. Watch “Shark Tank”: what other advice would you share?

Don't apply for your dream job. This was the title of a talk I wrote a few years ago. The idea was simple: when you focus too narrowly on one role or company, you can miss out on the unexpected opportunities that could change everything. I know this firsthand. When I was working as a recruiter, someone asked me to help them find designers. I didn’t know much about the field then, but that one request opened a door. I started talking to designers, and what I found was a whole new world that sparked my curiosity. The more I learned, the more I realised that to truly help, I needed to understand their challenges, career paths, and growth on a much deeper level. So, I got involved in the community: building relationships, attending meetups, listening, and learning from designers themselves. What began as a way to improve at recruiting grew into something much bigger. I found myself drawn to helping designers navigate their careers, supporting them in ways that went beyond hiring. That detour set me on a completely different path. It led me to building communities for designers and discovering a mission I didn’t know I was searching for. Sometimes, it’s the unplanned moments that lead you to where you truly belong. What unexpected turns have shaped your journey?

Time after time, I come across posts like this on my feed, and I can’t help but laugh. It’s funny because, more often than not, it’s just a tactic to boost engagement. Any serious company that’s genuinely hiring will either provide an email address for you to submit your application or share a link to a form to fill out. Instead of commenting on a post for a job that doesn't exist, head over to the jobs section on LinkedIn. When you find a role that interests you, apply directly. After applying, try to find the hiring manager or the person who posted the job and send them a direct message. Use this opportunity to pitch yourself or ask for advice on how to make your application stand out. Alternatively, you could even send a DM before applying to introduce yourself. Good luck with your job search! 💜 Like 🗨️ Comment ♻️ Repost. #productdesigner #softwaredeveloper #frontendengineer #techstartups #recruiter #opentowork
