It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. "It embodies our purpose, calling us to celebrate and honour the strength and vitality of our cultures." As an organisation, we have been putting to task the recommendations from NAIDOC - here’s three things you can do: - Check your local council for events: https://lnkd.in/dexeVKVM - If you cannot attend an in-person event, here are other ways to participate: Follow and engage with First Nations creators online, attend online events, and watch movies and shows featuring First Nations stories. Learn the traditional names of the land you live on and its owners. - Follow, like and share some cool people who are posting interesting content, here are some of our favourite current and upcoming leaders: https://lnkd.in/gy8U6aks https://lnkd.in/gfmX8dD5 https://lnkd.in/g3_q2HB #NAIDOC24 #BLAK #keepthefireburning #impactinvesting #indigenousknowledges

🪶 As NAIDOC Week wraps up, it's been heartwarming to see so many big companies showing support with smoking ceremonies, dances, and cupcakes. However, real change begins at the core of business culture. Beyond the NAIDOC Week festivities, how many of these companies are truly committed to "Closing the Gap"? It's essential to ask: - How many have initiatives supporting the First Nations communities directly or entrepreneurs to build businesses to support the community? - How many provide work experience placements and career pathways for First Nations people? How many invest in truth-telling and cultural competency/engagement training? NAIDOC Week should indeed be celebrated, but it's also a prime opportunity to push harder for equity and inclusion. There's a long way to go, and it's time for businesses to walk the talk. Let’s strive for genuine, year-round commitment to supporting First Nations communities. #NAIDOCWeek #ClosingTheGap #RealChange #EquityAndInclusion #SupportIndigenousCommunities #TruthTelling #CulturalCompetency #BeyondTokenism

This year’s NAIDOC Week will again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. ANZSOG acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week as a celebration which honours First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of our own journey to become a culturally competent organisation, making a positive contribution to First Nations policy and public administration. Held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024, this year’s NAIDOC Week recognises the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In NAIDOC week, and throughout the year, ANZSOG stands with the First Nations of Australia and supports aspirations for a just and equitable relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and for First Nations communities to have control over their own lives. Despite the progress we have made, there are still many structural and cultural changes that need to happen within public services to make this a reality, and we are proud that ANZSOG is working to help make those changes happen.

When your business participates in NAIDOC events, you can feel the incredible spiritual connection First Nation peoples' have with each other. The laughter and conversations you hear in the distance make you smile. Being around mob is like attending a big annual family gathering, where you bump into people you haven't seen for years. (even if it's only been a day or two) The music, dances, and celebrations are experiences that are hard to explain to non-First Nation people, but I think you know what I'm referring to. NAIDOC Week can sometimes prompt businesses to evaluate their engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. This reflection often reveals a different perspective than what the media portrays and fosters a desire for more of the amazing feeling that comes from being around mob. Businesses start to question: Are we meeting our goals and successfully implementing our Reconciliation Plan? Are we enhancing our Indigenous supply chain? Are we making purposeful and meaningful impacts? Can we do better? If you want to enhance your business’s cultural knowledge, connect more effectively with Indigenous Communities, and expand your Indigenous supply chain, there's only one way to do this. Put your thoughts into action! 'Keep the Fire Burning, Blak, Loud and Proud' by continuing to strengthen relationships and create real opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' and businesses to thrive, succeed, and have more celebrations!! Happy NAIDOC everyone! #NAIDOC #FirstNation #Celebrations #EveryoneInvited

🖤 💛 ❤️ HAPPY NAIDOC WEEK ❤️ 💛 🖤 Blak, Loud and Proud! At times it can be difficult to keep the fire burning however every time resilience, strength, unity, resistance, relationships, respect and honoring our culture always reminds me to keep the smoke, the flame and the fire going. Our ancestors always stood up for what's right and have paved the way for 60,000+ years. It's so important to share stories, traditions, ways of knowing, being and doing and learn from our elders to keep the longest living culture thriving. Learning and working with our people requires deep listening, understanding, respect and strong relationships to then take action towards achieving equal rights, and sovereignty. Especially when it comes to health outcomes. For many years I have been listening to community, actively learning my culture and ways, co-creating spaces to help our people thrive in our own self-determined way. Working to decolonise constructs in corporate environments, and ensure First Nations Ways and proper ways are upheld which doesn't force us to assimilate but rather bring our own unique perspective to the spaces we work, live and play in. To work with First Nations peoples and community it requires a deep understanding and commitment beyond ticking a box, or meeting a % target. It involves understanding ways of knowing, being and doing and upholding cultural humility, responsibility and taking on the colonial load. It's about forming, building and strengthening meaningful relationships that acknowledge historical ways and support self-determination, to strive for outcomes that are equitable and inclusive. NAIDOC week is a celebration to amplify and celebrate First Nations culture and voices. Join in the celebration this week with your local community; https://lnkd.in/gwtEnbGP Happy NAIDOC Week you Mob! #NAIDOCWEEK2024 #BLAKLOUDPROUD
