A great read that helps you understand where the CAF and our allies are trying to go as it relates to integration and Command and Control.

This is a needed shift in focus that recognizes how DoD does business. The INDOPACOM commander needs a Joint capability, but the system only provides individual Service programs. Attempting to impose universal standards and mandating interchangeability without any real mechanism of enforcement would lead to years of dithering and lack of progress. By focusing on knitting together the various service programs at the tactical level -- there is at least a possibility of progress in the near term! Command and Control is a function we perform, not a program -- focusing on how to better perform that function by tying together existing systems is a good approach. #CJADC2 #DOD

When the DOD released its Joint All-Domain Command and Control, or JADC2, implementation plan in March 2022, the vision for the modernization effort was crystallizing around promising technologies and products. Now, there is a push to speed up the effort, focusing on a plan to reach initial operational capability, prioritizing enhanced capabilities across the Indo-Pacific region.   We’re getting closer! A good read on JADC2 from Bryan Clark and Dan Patt: bottom-up evolution rather than top-down directives. Given that JADC2 (or even CJADC2?!) is envisaged as the core enabler for future US war fighting, one wonders what will happen when this system meets the Chinese Multi-Domain-Precision-Warfare (the PLA version of JADC2)? Given that these systems become utterly central to the conduct of all military action, is it possible that some form to mutually assured deterrence results?

As the services realize the vulnerabilities of their C2 infrastructure more will need to change to create the autonomy required for the speed of war needed. Especially as AI drives the OODA loop even tighter.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, it’s more important now than ever that the US Navy embrace software-centricity to respond to threats and challenges with agility. As this article states, this requires a reimagining of warfare in which digital technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and cyber capabilities become central to naval operations.
