You see fonts just about everywhere, but most of us don't think about them, however, they are actually really important to every aspect of our lives. The fonts we use to determine how much a person can understand our messaging and they are at times used to convey our messages. You will find fonts everywhere from the emails we send & receive to the street signs we walk past to the advertisements we see, they play a vital role in both design and accessibility and national security. How would represent visually a human resource? I asked Midjourney do that for me and as per its usual it gave me 4 possible interpretations. I'm choosing this one as inspiration for my reflections today as it hits me in a particular way. First of all the 2 men in the bottom left. 2 small men, that despite their size look important, probably in a position of command compared to the large mass that they look at from a distance. They are dressed alike and their power is disproportionate to their physical size. They wear suits, which make me think that nowhere else in the economic world anyone would even imagine to call people "human resource" except in corporations. There's a component of scale that comes into factor and that makes us forget that we are talking about people. People that are all different. Just look at the pillars and see how there are not 2 that are the same for length, area of the base or how much they protrude from the structure. And yet they are all stacked. A wall of usefulness packaged in conveniently rectangular prisms. Lingots? No, more like Jengas. And you can easy swap one resource for another one, isn't it? You can remove one and then another one and the tower still stands, isn't it? I love that there's a single large convex face at the center, as if to represent with a single image the collective which is instead made of many stamps (the pillars with concave faces). I have seen similar "stamps" a couple of months ago in New Orleans used for a sculpture to remember a community who disappeared tragically. As people we want to be remembered for who we are. As human resources you can put us wherever there's a gap in your monolithic structure of grey concrete. We'll stay there. Don't worry. Precisely where the suits ask us to be. Until we'll move. Oooops. One piece less in your Jenga tower. Now, your move, corporate player ♟️
