While sales jobs inherently have high failure rates, I also do think hiring managers at recruitment agencies make the job sound easier than it is bc they’re so eager for the hire to work out. I’ve certainly been guilty of this and I know the reasoning behind this attitude and approach well. It’s easy to get swept up into someone’s potential that we oversell things in our enthusiasm and love for the biz. It’s tempting bc you see a bright, motivated go getter and you want them to work out! In theory, they should. But many are just superficially excited and when push comes to shove, they’re not truly cut out for the role. I think our industry would have a slightly lower failure rate if we put up more of a fight to hire someone than making it sound so easy to become successful bc “just look at XYZ person who is only 25 and making over $215k”. While that is the case, it’s not the norm and it comes at a great sacrifice and dedication to the role beyond fun and games. These people are pretty rare. So we have to be a bit more realistic when hiring as well as an industry.
