These #ingenious #ideas could help #Artemis #astronauts #produce #drinking #water on the #Moon There's a simple reason why Agency's upcoming Artemis missions are scheduled to land around the moon's south pole: The area is thought to be home to a lot of water ice. Humans can not only theoretically drink that moon waterThey can also split off oxygen atoms to create breathable air. But first, astronauts will need a way to turn ice into liquid water. Finding a viable way to do this is the goal https://lnkd.in/dbsayRpC

EUROPA FILES E20 Since we think Europa may be able to support alien life, we do not want to contaminate it with Earth life. There is something called Planetary Protection, which is two sided. One side is to protect Earth from potential “space bugs” or hazards. This is why the Apollo 11 astronauts were quarantined when they landed back on Earth and why Mars Sample Return is such a challenge. The other side is not accidentally putting any “earth bugs” out in space where there could be alien life, like Europa. We don’t want to find life somewhere and have it accidentally be the life we brought with us. So Europa Clipper is going through many cleaning and sanitizing processes to eliminate the Earth bugs in everything from manufacturing to assembly. #europa #europaclipper #europafiles #europaicebath #europaphile

🌑 **Did You Know? The Apollo 11 Crew Had to Declare Moon Rocks at Customs? 👨🚀When Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins returned from the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, they faced an unusual requirement: filing a customs declaration. 💡Why Did This Happen? Upon their return to Earth, the astronauts had to comply with standard customs regulations, a procedure typically reserved for travelers returning from international trips. And the flight to the Moon was definitely an international one. This formality ensured that any materials brought back, including moon rocks and lunar dust, were adequately recorded and assessed. 📝On their customs form, the crew listed their itinerary: Kennedy Space Center - The Moon - Honolulu and cargo: "Moon rock and moon dust samples" #Apollo11 #SpaceHistory #NASA #MoonLanding #CustomsDeclaration

Big announcements! 👩🏻🚀 You may have noticed that I am not very active lately and this is the reason: I have two announcements to make! ✨️ The first announcement is that I will be at the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 in Milan from October 14th to 18th. I look forward to meeting you all, friends and colleagues. If you see me please stop me to say hi! ✨️ The second one is that I am about to become an 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁! 👩🏻🚀 After the International Astronautical Congress I will go on an 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Poland at the Analog Astronaut Training Center together with some colleagues. What is an 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻? An Analog Astronaut Mission is a simulated space mission conducted on Earth to mimic various aspects of space exploration. These missions are designed to replicate the physical, psychological, and operational conditions that Astronauts experience in space. The goal is to prepare for real space missions to destinations like the Moon or Mars. Wonders of life do not end on earth, in fact life on earth is just the beginning for us humans! "Artemis III will build on the crewed Artemis II flight test, adding new capabilities with the human landing system and advanced spacesuits to send the first humans to explore the lunar South Pole region. Over the course of about 30 days, the Artemis III astronauts will travel to lunar orbit, where two crew members will descend to the surface and spend approximately a week near the South Pole of the Moon conducting new science before returning to lunar orbit to join their crew for the journey back to Earth." https://lnkd.in/gq--RRC5.

Did you know that a footprint on the Moon could last for millions of years? Unlike Earth, the Moon has no atmosphere, which means there is no wind or water to erode or wash away the footprint. The only factors that could affect it are micrometeorite impacts and the slight movement of lunar soil caused by thermal expansion or contraction. As a result, footprints left by astronauts during the Apollo missions are still intact and may remain that way for a very long time. 🌕👣 #Moon #SpaceExploration #ApolloMission

MARS 🔵 Just because one might be able to find a couple of astronauts crazy enough to go on a human-crewed mission to Mars, is not sufficiently sensible reason to squander a vast sum of money pandering to such lunacy. MASSIVE SPEED INCREASE REQUIRED ⚫ The human-crewed mission from the Moon to Mars needs to be postponed indefinitely until we have increased the speed by which we are capable of traveling to and from the red planet, with the round trip from the Moon to Mars and back taking no longer than is currently required to journey from the Earth to the Moon and back — around a week. ROBOT ASTRONAUTS 🔵 Thoroughly mastering and building up our proficiency to a high level with robot astronauts is where we need to be putting our efforts at this point in time. ROBOT PLANET ⚫ Mars will be the first of our entirely robot-populated planets. 🔻Article: ➡ https://lnkd.in/guKgEihS #Mars

What is it like to live on Mars for a year? It is something that would be good to know before getting there. Astronaut Analogs are a good way to find out before actually getting there. Check out this video to find out more about them: https://lnkd.in/gfMC2mw2
